Scotland v New Zealand live: Latest score and updates as hosts seek historic first win over All Blacks in international rugby clash

New Zealand 7-0 Scotland
Scotland looking to fight back early here, though they go through 12 phases before Fagerson loses it forward moments after a big hit on Darcy Graham on the left wing.

TRY! New Zealand 7-0 Scotland
TRY! That’s what the visitors can do!
It’s little soft from a Scotland point of view though, with Lord lifting his head from the ruck on halfway and spotting a gap that he breezes through far too easily.
He draws the final two defenders and slips the pass to Cam Roigard, who simply has to walk it in under the posts.
Beauden Barrett finds the extra two points easily enough off the tee.

Scotland 0-0 New Zealand
New Zealand happy to work it through the hands early on, with plenty of players getting their first touches.
Scotland are a little less happy to do the same considering they’re in their own half, with a kick forcing the visitors back to about halfway.

Scotland vs New Zealand match officials
Australia’s Nic Berry is the man in the middle this afternoon, with a South African flavour to the rest of the officiating team. Pierre Brousset, of course, was in charge of the All Blacks’ win over Ireland last week, and Scotland’s narrow Calcutta Cup defeat to England in the Six Nations – the Frenchman is an assistant today.

Good guy Beauden Barrett
There is just one Barrett brother involved today with Jordie out of the All Blacks’ tour and Scott sidelined with that leg laceration. The 34-year-old playmaker further underlined his status as a good guy of rugby by helping Ireland’s Tadhg Beirne get his red card rescinded at a disciplinary hearing this week.
Barrett had promised to do what he could to argue that Beirne’s challenge on him had not merited a sending off, and duly obliged with a statement in which he seemed to take as much of the blame for the collision as the Ireland lock. “”The play wasn’t designed for me to receive the ball, and I didn’t expect to be involved,” Barrett explained. “However, Cam (Roigard) passed me the ball unexpectedly.
“I caught it — more by luck than anticipation — and because I wasn’t prepared to carry, my body position was high and not committed with proper intent or force.
“As I carried into contact, I ran into a congested area, hoping Cam would play out the back. Initial contact was front-on and above the shoulder area.
“I take responsibility for entering contact in a high position, as that contributed to the nature of the collision.
“I don’t believe the opposing player could have done much differently — it was a contact sport situation, and fortunately, Tadhg showed good awareness and controlled his force, which prevented a more serious collision.”

Wallace Sititi back in the starting side
It is perhaps appropriate that a flanker named after William Wallace is back in the New Zealand starting side to face Scotland. Wallace Sititi’s parents were big fans of Mel Gibson’s Braveheart, clearly able to look over the historical inaccuracies, with dad Semo spending plenty of time in the country across two stints with the Border Reivers.
It’s good to see Sititi given a start, though, after such a captivating breakthrough year in 2024. His form has fluctuated a bit more this but there is all sorts of athleticism in that All Blacks back row today. Ardie Savea needs no introduction and anyone who has watched the Hurricanes over the last few seasons knows the explosiveness that Peter Lakai possesses.
