San Francisco Giants prospect Antonio Jimenez in hospital after horror car crash in Dominican Republic

A minor league baseball player is fighting for his life in hospital following a horror crash which reportedly claimed the lives of three people in the Dominican Republic.
San Francisco Giants prospect Antonio Jimenez, 24, was one of four people involved in the accident in the Dominican city of San Pedro de Macoris early Monday morning.
According to conexion23com – a media outlet based in the city – the incident occurred when a red SUV collided with two scooters in front of telecommunications company Altice’s offices on 27 February Street.
The report claims three men were pronounced dead at the scene, while Jimenez was rushed to hospital after suffering multiple traumas, including fractures in the femur and spine and lacerations. He remains under intensive medical care.
Alfredo Garcia, Victor de Jesus and Israel Carpio were named as the three men who lost their lives in the collision. Garcia was reportedly 28 years old, while De Jesus and Carpio’s ages are currently unclear.
In a statement provided to the Daily Mail, the San Francisco Giants said: ‘We are aware of the tragic car accident involving one of our players, Antonio Jimenez, and are in the process of gathering more information.

Jimenez, who plays for the Giants’ minor league affiliate, suffered serious injuries in the accident, which has reportedly claimed the lives of three men
‘Out of respect for everyone affected and due to the ongoing investigation, we will refrain from further comment at this time.’

Jimenez, who was born in San Pedro de Macoris, plays for the Giants’ MiLB affiliate, the Sacramento River Cats. He was first activated by the minor league team in December of last year.
The Dominican pitcher, who has spent time with MLB’s San Francisco in spring training, is also on the books of Dominican Winter League outfit Toros del Este.
He was first snapped up as a free agent by the Tampa Bay Rays back in 2018, before signing with the Giants last year.
Through his career in the minor leagues, Jimenez has recorded an ERA of 3.43 across 422 innings, giving away 354 hits and 179 runs while striking out 471 batters.
This season he has started three games for the River Cats, putting up a 3.55 ERA through 45.2 innings for 35 hits, 19 runs and 56 strikeouts.
