Demi Lovato has been mercilessly mocked after her ‘cruel’ Thanksgiving turkey blunder resurfaced.
The 33-year-old singer first sparked controversy on the annual holiday back in 2020 after an image was shared of her posing with a ‘pet’ turkey at an animal sanctuary in California.
The post, shared by American animal protection organization Farm Sanctuary, read: ‘Turkeys are bright, social animals who enjoy being pet – just ask Demi Lovato…
‘The turkeys were so excited to meet Demi Lovato at our California Sanctuary.’
‘Thanks for visiting, Demi, we loved having you!’ they wrote, alongside the image of Lovato grinning and holding the turkey.
‘Choose compassion this Thanksgiving and sponsor one of our rescued turkeys.’
Not long after, the actress took to Instagram to share her own Thanksgiving meal, which included a cooked turkey fresh out of the oven. In overlaid text, she wrote, ‘I’m thankful for all of you’ along with a heart emoji.
At the time, followers couldn’t help but point out the juxtaposition of Lovato’s earlier involvement with an animal sanctuary and the cooked meat.

The image resurfaced again on Reddit earlier today with amused – and horrified – readers taking to the comments section to share their thoughts.
It was uploaded with the title: ‘In honor of Thanksgiving, remember when a farm sanctuary posted a picture of Demi Lovato with a turkey (animal) just for her to post turkey (food)?’

Lovato was called out for the ‘cruel’ blunder at the time having previously posted a whole host of photos with animals who were all ‘rescued from cruelty’ from her day touring the sanctuary.
‘The highlight of my tour was cuddling with a rescued turkey named Sandy. Not only are these animals cute, but they are forgiving,’ she wrote. ‘The animals at Farm Sanctuary had to learn to trust humans after what they’d been through, and their strength and resilience is amazing!’

Lovato revealed she ‘did a lot of healing’ while making the 2024 documentary Child Star, which delves into child stardom, fame and working in the entertainment industry at a young age.
The pop star admitted that it proved to be a really valuable experience for her.
Lovato told Who What Wear: ‘I had a blast working on Child Star. But I also did a lot of healing for myself to be able to come out of that experience with some tangible change that hopefully the rest of the country will follow suit on.’
