How the table looks
A win tonight would see Arsenal move clear of Bayern Munich at the top of the Champions League table; the sides are currently level on 15 points, but Arsenal have a game in hand.
Club Brugge meanwhile are languishing down in 28th, two points off the top 24 and therefore the play-off spots.

Injury crisis at Arsenal
Arteta was asked about having the second-biggest number of injuries in the Premier League. He said: “I think you have to separate the kinds of injuries that they have. Some of them have been long-term and acute injuries, especially with some of the key players who give you a lot of days out. It’s something that we are constantly looking at.
“As I said, we have played a lot of games with a lot of players missing. That gives a lot of stress and then more injuries. We are on it and I’m really happy with what we are doing in terms of the medical stuff and everything that we are trying to do together. Sometimes, as well, we need some people to go in our time.”
Are his players over-trained? “No, because we don’t train. Today, we’ve done 20 minutes. So, it’s probably not because we’re over-trained players.”

Injury crisis at Arsenal
Mikel Arteta had this to say in his pre-match press conference on swapping out talented 15-year-old Max Dowman for Gabriel Jesus in the Champions League squad.
“Unfortunately, Max picked up an injury last weekend [playing for the U21s]. We did some scans and he’s going to be out for weeks,”
“Then we had the situation of Gabi. We expected him to be training with us by the end of December. But Gabi has been pushing every single day and he kept telling everybody he would be back earlier.
“He has done it. Thanks to his work and the work the medical staff has done with him throughout these months, we had the possibility to make a swap there.”

Club Brugge in managerial turmoil
Club Brugge are playing under a new manager tonight after Nicky Hayen was sacked two days ago. Here’s what club captain Hans Vanaken had to say on the change:
“A surprise for the squad,” he told a press conference on Tuesday. “Nobody expected that. There wasn’t really a reason or anything we thought was a reason. Look, the board has made a decision and it’s up to the players to accept that.
“We know that in football, tough decisions are made sometimes. Firing a coach is always unpleasant. Secretly, we’re all convinced that things could have got better in the coming months.”
“Ivan is a completely different personality than Nicky, he has a bit more fire in him. That’s not to say one is better than the other, but in the past, we clicked.” (Vanaken played under Leko at Brugge from 2017-2019.)

Five changes for Arsenal
Mikel Arteta has made five changes to the side that lost to Aston Villa, with Viktor Gyokeres starting for the first time since 1 November.
Christian Norgaard, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli are all brought in, with Riccardo Calafiori, Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze dropping to the bench. Norgaard is at centre-back, such is Arsenal’s defensive crisis, and it’s only December.
Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber haven’t been included in the match-day squad, the former due to illness and the latter for reasons unknown.
It’s a youthful bench, with teenagers Louie Copley, Josh Nichols and Marli Salmon among the subs.
