A decade later, Paul Feig is considering sending Melissa McCarthy undercover again for a Spy sequel.
Despite his reluctance to make sequels (with the exception of Another Simple Favor), the 4x Emmy nominee recently revealed that “I definitely have an idea” for a follow-up to the 2015 action-comedy.
“I used to say I don’t want to do sequels, and then I did Another Simple Favorbut that felt like five years, and we had an idea for a story that felt good,” he told SlashFilm.
“I definitely have an idea for a story for Spy 2but I don’t know. I just don’t know if that’s the place to go right now. I’m having so much fun doing new things,” added Feig. “And I’m so happy with Spy. But sometimes to go revisit something, you kind of go, ‘Oh, we should have just left good enough alone.’”
In SpyMcCarthy stars as Susan Cooper, a CIA analyst who lands her first undercover assignment with the agent she usually works with, Bradley Fine (Jude Law), is assassinated by Bulgarian arms dealer Rayna Boyanov (Rose Byrne).
