A groggy Jake Paul said, with some difficulty, that his broken jaw feels like it has a baseball inside it after being on the receiving end of a battering from Anthony Joshua in Miami last Friday.
He made a brief appearance on brother Logan’s ‘Impaulsive’ podcast, released on Tuesday but recorded the day after the fight, to reflect on his six rounds in the ring with the British heavyweight boxer that left him with a broken jaw in two places.
Paul underwent surgery after the fight and said he had four metal plates inserted. He had already told his fans that he lost some teeth from the procedure.
‘It’s like there’s a baseball in there,’ Paul said. ‘Four titanium plates. It’s literally snapped, bro, completely snapped.’
Paul opened up on what went through his head when Joshua made contact with the right hook that ended the fight in the sixth round.
‘I was like “wow, that was nice”. I was on the ground like “that was a good shot”. He surprised my jaw. I mean, it’s not that hard to get your ass beat.

‘I was doing good, I just think my cardio, just the mental pressure of the big guy and sparring the big people is different on the 10 ounce gloves. But it was a great experience, I learnt a lot in there.’
Paul then had to stop for a moment before saying: ‘I can’t really f***ing talk.’
He added that he regretted not doing altitude training before the fight to help build up a higher level of cardio.
‘I should have gone to altitude training,’ he said. ‘I wish I had more than three weeks I think, to prepare. To put on more muscle. I should have gone to altitude training, that was my biggest mistake.
‘I just needed to have that extra level of cardio for this and that can only come from altitude.’
Paul’s mom, Pam, who was also on the podcast, said that Paul’s cardio was also impacted because he was sick for 10 days during his training camp.
In fairness to Paul, he didn’t seem to want to draw attention to that too much in the way other fighters have after losing a bout.
Pam also said that she became fearful of what was going to happen to her son when, in the latter stages of the fight, she said Joshua’s corner was urging Paul’s team to stop the fight before he got badly hurt.
Paul, who earned an estimated $92million from the fight, continued: ‘I did have fun. I love this sport and I love this job, it doesn’t even feel like a job. This sport has done so much for me.’
The 28-year-old said that he will be back in boxing once he has recovered and has no desire to retire.
Netflix announced earlier on Tuesday that 33 million people tuned in from around the globe to watch the fight in Miami.
