Police have locked down a suburb of Canberra following reports of a shooting.
Those in Whitlam were advised to remain indoors and follow police instruction as the lockdown came into effect shortly after 8.30pm on Wednesday.
One resident claimed to have heard officers instruct a man to ‘drop the gun’ on Hazel Hawkes Avenue, the Canberra Times reported.
One person of interest has been taken into custody.
A dozen police units and two fire trucks attended the scene and several roadblocks were erected.
‘Anyone who is not returning to their homes is asked to avoid the area,’ ACT Police said in a statement.
‘The community will be advised when this matter has concluded.’
