See Andrew and Matty Johns’s hilarious reunion after their split kept them apart for a year

Footy greats Andrew Johns and his brother Matthew reunited during the Christmas period and bonded over their love of the band Oasis.

The Johns brothers showed off their karaoke skills as they reunited for a rendition of Half The World Away by the legendary Mancunian band.

In an Instagram video published by Matty’s son, Cooper, the pair donned bucket hats and sunglasses and belted out the words to the song into microphones.

Andrew was seen wrapping his arm around his brother as they sang the iconic tune.

But it appears the brothers have put their previous beef behind them, with the former Newcastle halfback wrapping his arm around his older sibling to embrace him, while knocking his Oasis cap off in the process.

Cooper captioned the clip ‘Christmas Miracles’.

The rugby league legends’ relationship had soured in 2023, with the pair coming to a disagreement over the status of the Queensland Maroons.

The dispute arose after Matty, a former New South Wales star, had heaped praise on Queensland boss Billy Slater, ahead of the State of Origin Series.

‘Slater’s close to the best coach in the game. You just know how he explains, how he coaches, the intricacies, the players absolutely love him,’ Matthew said at the time.

‘Queensland know exactly how they’re going to play and who they need to pick to make that happen.’

Andrew, who made 23 appearances for NSW, took umbrage at his comments after his brother appeared to side with their arch rivals.

‘Put your Maroon jersey on, you should have some at home. Just because you played four games and lost four doesn’t mean you need to s**t-bag NSW,’ Andrew said.

Their feud grew, with Matty later being barred from attending Andrew’s 52nd birthday, while Andrew quit his radio job with SEN, in which he had worked alongside his brother on the Matty Johns program.

Matty later revealed that the pair had addressed their issues, telling the Matty & The Missile podcast that his son, Jack, had intervened and urged him to resolve the issue.

Jack had said to Matty: ‘’Dad, you drink too much, all that sort of stuff. He’s taken over [from] Trish [Matt’s wife]. He’s that sort of kid.’

The youngster had told his old man that he didn’t like what was going on between his dad and his uncle.

Jack, who played for the Rabbitohs and the Knights, tricked Matty and Andrew into seeing each other.

Matty was hanging around the house when Jack asked him to go on an impromptu drive.

‘He goes, “Do you want to go for a drive, Dad?” I didn’t really want to. I was watching a movie.

‘I said, “Okay, let’s go for a drive”.

‘So we hop in the car, and we’re driving. And we’re driving. We’re going over the Spit Bridge.

‘Mate, where are we going?’

‘As we went over the Harbour Bridge, I knew where he was taking me. So I’m sitting at the front [of Andrew’s home], I’m in the car, and I say, “Mate, C’mon”.

‘And he said, “Get the f*** up there.”

‘I went, OK, I got the lift up, and he knocked on the door, and opened it up, and I gave Joey a big cuddle.

‘And he [Jack] did that.

‘Since then, me and Joey, there’s still a little bit of ground to make up, but you’re always brothers, that’s the thing.’

Last week, Andrew made a rare appearance with his ex-wife Catherine Mahoney to celebrate a big milestone for their son Louis, who had signed with an NRL team.

Andrew and Catherine were married between 2007 and 2014 before they parted ways.

Louis has now put pen to paper on a deal to play for the Sydney Roosters.

Matty, meanwhile, announced in November that he was joining a consortium of investors who had acted to buy a stake in the Gold Coast Titans.
