Vice President JD Vance claimed that ICE shooting victim Renee Nicole Good’s death was a ‘tragedy of her own making’ in a White House briefing on Thursday.
Good, 37, was shot in the head three times while inside her SUV on Wednesday, sparking mass protests in the streets and outrage from Minnesota lawmakers.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) claimed the shooting was an act of self-defense, but the city’s Democrat Mayor Jacob Frey has blasted ICE’s characterization of the shooting and told them to ‘get the f**k out of Minneapolis.’
‘They are already trying to spin this as an act of self-defense. Having seen the video myself, I wanna tell everybody directly, that is bull****,’ he said.
Superintendent Drew Evans said Thursday that the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension had stepped away from the investigation, with the FBI taking over the case.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said that ‘people in positions of power’ had made ‘verifiably false, verifiably inaccurate’ conclusions about the case and that ‘Minnesota must be part of this investigation.’
DHS had deployed more than 2,000 officers to the area in what it says is its largest-ever immigration enforcement operation.

Tim Walz activates National Guard
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz issued an executive order to activate the state National Guard as protests continue to grow.
‘Minnesotans are exercising their Constitutional rights to express their disagreement with federal immigration enforcement policies and tactics. Federal immigration officials have increased tensions, caused chaos, and left our state less safe,’ the order states.
‘As part of ongoing planning activities, and in response to potential capacity concerns from local leaders, it is important to ensure optimal readiness in the case of changes to the public safety environment.
‘That preparedness includes state assistance from the Minnesota National Guard. The National Guard can assist with preparation and planning activities in support of local and state law enforcement and emergency management agencies.’
Trump demands play-by-play review of brutal ICE killing
President Donald Trump insists that Renee Good, the 37-year-old woman who was shot and killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) official in Minneapolis, plowed over the agent.
‘She behaved horribly,’ Trump told the New York Times in a sweeping sit-down interview, his second conversation this week with the outlet he’s repeatedly lambasted.
‘And then she ran him over. She didn’t try to run him over. She ran him over,’ Trump said.
When the Times questioned whether the video was too unclear to draw early conclusions, Trump demanded to watch the footage again.
Walz says National Guard ready to ‘keep the peace’
Governor Tim Walz said he activated the National Guard out of an abundance of caution in case they are need to keep the peace.
‘Minnesotans have met this moment. Thousands of people have peacefully made their voices heard. Minnesota: thank you. We saw powerful peace,’ Walz said.
‘We have every reason to believe that peace will hold. Yesterday, I directed the National Guard to be ready should they be needed. They remain ready in the event they are needed to help keep the peace, ensure public safety, and allow for peaceful demonstrations.’
National Guard activated ‘out of an abundance of caution,’ says lieutenant governor
Minnesota Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan told CNN the National Guard was activated ‘out of an abundance of caution.’
‘Making sure that folks are demonstrating peacefully is incredibly important. We keep each other safe and that is what is needed and necessary right now,’ she said.
ICE agent Jonathan Ross previous encounter with migrant driver
Jonathan Ross, the ICE agent involved in the fatal shooting of Renee Good in Minneapolis, had been dragged 100 yards by a car in June as he tried to arrest an illegal immigrant sex offender.
The previous incident took pace in Bloomington, Minnesota and he suffered gruesome injuries which needed 20 stitches to his right arm, and 13 to his left hand.

While there is no universal standard for law enforcement, most police departments ban shooting at a moving vehicle unless the driver poses an imminent threat of deadly force beyond the car itself, according to the Associated Press.
Justice Department policy says deadly force is allowed only when no reasonable alternative exists, including stepping out of the vehicle’s path.
ICE operates under similar guidelines, but federal agents have added legal protections when acting within their official duties.

Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar posted a tribute for Renee Nicole Good on X.
‘Renee Nicole Good was a mother of three, including a 6-year-old boy who is now an orphan,’ she wrote.
‘Renee was deeply loved by many. Her mom described her as “one of the kindest people I’ve ever known.”
‘This is who we lost yesterday. By refusing to coordinate with local law enforcement, ICE is not making our community safe. It is making it less safe.’
Hennepin County attorney ‘exploring all options’ to investigate shooting
Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty released a statement confirming her office is ‘exploring all options’ after the FBI iced state officials out of the shooting investigation.
‘After the FBI rescinded its cooperation agreement with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, our office immediately began exploring all options to ensure a state level investigation can continue,’ Moriarty wrote.
‘If the FBI is the sole investigative agency, the State will not receive the investigative findings, and our community may never learn about its contents.
‘We are speaking to our local partners on paths forward that will allow us to review the investigation and be transparent in our decision making.’
