Toronto Maple Leafs coach Craig Berube shows off gruesome head injury after freak ‘gym’ accident

Toronto Maple Leafs coach Craig Berube was left with a nasty gash on his head after suffering a mystery accident in the gym.

Berube arrived for his press conference on Friday sporting a black eye and the 60-year-old then took off his cap to reveal a long cut to the top of his head.

The Maple Leafs coach refused to reveal exactly what caused the gruesome injury but said it would not stop him coaching Toronto against Las Vegas on Friday night.

‘I’ll address it, because you’re gonna see it tonight. I had an accident in the gym yesterday,’ he said, showing off the stitches.

‘The other guy looks way worse… there was three of them.’

Berube added: ‘I’m not going to talk about it. Nobody needs to know. It’s all good… it was just a bad accident. It’s on me. My fault. I’m fine.’

The injury did not stop Craig Berube from coaching his team against the Golden Knights

The Maple Leafs were looking to end a skid of four losses in five games when they took on the Golden Knights at home on Friday night. But Toronto fell to a 6-3 loss.

The 60-year-old has been in charge of the Maple Leafs since May 2024. He previously coached the Philadelphia Flyers and St Louis Blues.

The Alberta native spent 17 seasons in the NHL as a player, enjoying stints with Philadelphia, Toronto, Calgary, Washington and the New York Islanders.

Across 1,054 regular season NHL games, Berube amassed 159 points (61 goals, 98 assists) and 3,149 penalty minutes.
