Queensland Liberal National Party MP Col Boyce has confirmed he will move a spill motion against party leader David Littleproud, after Littleproud’s decision last week to end the Coalition agreement.
Speaking to Sky News, Boyce said he would bring the motion forward on Monday afternoon, arguing the leadership’s break from the Coalition was ‘a bad decision’.
Boyce also declared he will challenge Littleproud for the leadership, and said that if successful he would immediately seek to repair the Coalition partnership.
He referenced recent remarks from Liberal leader Sussan Ley, who said the Nationals would be welcomed back if they chose to return.
‘The door is open to re-establish the Coalition, I believe it is what we should do. I believe it is the most viable way forward for the National Party, for the Liberal Party and wider conservative politics,’ Boyce said.
