Novak Djokovic v Jannik Sinner live: Australian Open latest score updates from semi-final as Carlos Alcaraz awaits after record semi-final

*Novak Djokovic 3-6 4-2 Jannik Sinner
Sinner puts away an overhead to held the hold. He would have expected a tough semi-final against Djokovic, of course, but the challenge has really been brought to the World No 2 since the start of the second set.

Novak Djokovic 3-6 4-1 Jannik Sinner*
Sinner jumps into 0-40 as he hunts the immediate response. It starts as he makes a wonderful pick-up, finding the angle. Djokovic then double-faults, before putting a volley out of play as he tried to deal with Sinner’s pass.
Sinner races to the volley from Djokovic but pushes the pass wide. Sinner then nets on the wide serve from Djokovic, another saved. Make that three! Djokovic finds a big serve out wide.
Deuce – saving here would be as big as breaking in the previous game, and he moves a point away as Sinner goes long on the backhand. That is a massive hold! He thunders away the forehand winner off the serve.

BREAK! *Novak Djokovic 3-6 3-1 Jannik Sinner
Massive for Djokovic! He breaks Sinner’s serve for the first time as he comes out on top in the forehand-forehand duel. Sinner goes long and this match has now come alive an hour in. He gets his reward for changing it up and bringing some massive hitting. A stark contrast to how the semi-final began.

Novak Djokovic 3-6 2-1 Jannik Sinner*
Djokovic gets a look into Sinner’s service game and his fans are starting to make themselves heard on 15-30. Sinner fires an ace, but Djokovic will get a look at break point.
Sinner’s drop shot does not land – Djokovic gets there and Sinner hits out in response. Djokovic hangs his head as he returns into the net on break point – he thinks he needed to do better on a rare chance.
He gets another one, though, dialling the return back and standing up to Sinner in the point, as the Italian goes long. No chance for Djokovic this time. Sinner slams the serve down the middle.

Djokovic pauses as two fans – one dressed as a bottle of ketchup, the other mustard – are removed by security.
He also holds to love as he finds his serve.
Starting to build something.

Novak Djokovic 3-6 1-1 Jannik Sinner*
Djokovic takes off with some massive hitting on his forehand side. But he roars in frustration after going a touch long for a second time. Sinner is just so consistent in these points, plus he’s adding an ace every game, it seems. Djokovic goes long on the forehand again, but a clear shift from Djokovic to go big or go home.

Novak Djokovic 3-6 1-0 Jannik Sinner*
Silly level from Sinner in the first set and he looks to be making a fast start to the second as he faces to flick a backhand down the line.
Djokovic, though, wins a gutsy point to get to 40-15, scrambling. Even Djokovic doesn’t quite know how Sinner stayed alive on the defence in the next point.
But the 38-year-old comes through his opening hold. And he is hitting much better now than he did at the start of the first.

SINNER WINS FIRST SET! *Djokovic 3-6 Sinner
Sensational rally at 15-0, which Sinner finishes with a lovely smash crosscourt.
Djokovic is angry at 30-0 as he hits a return into the net, with a phone having gone off in the crowd.
It makes no difference. Sinner smashes a backhand down the line to claim the opening set.
Stunning from the defending champion.

Djokovic 3-5 Sinner*
A hold to love for Djokovic, who is seeing the ball much better now.
Still, Sinner will now serve for the first set…

*Djokovic 2-5 Sinner
Stunning from Sinner, as he chases down a Djokovic drop shot at 30-0 and caresses a drop shot crosscourt himself, showing off such speed in sprinting to the net!
A big serve down the T seals the game to love. And Sinner is one game away from the first set.
