Married At First Sight’s Julia Vogl shares candid confession about her bisexuality as she makes show history

Married At First Sight Australia bride Julia Vogl has made history as one of the show’s first openly bisexual participants.

Speaking to Daily Mail, Julia, 35, said her decision to be open about her sexuality was never about headlines – but about refusing to limit herself in the search for real love.

‘My bisexuality isn’t my whole identity,’ she said.

‘It’s just a part of me that I’ve embraced. When I signed up, I wanted true love, and that can come in many different packages for me.’

Julia made it clear she was equally open to marrying a man or a woman, saying she didn’t want to close herself off to any possibility in the experiment.

For her, being upfront on camera carried weight far beyond the show.

‘There’s this idea that bisexual people can be greedy or not loyal,’ she said.

‘I think it’s really important to have representation of bisexual people who are grounded, real and loyal,’ she continued.

Julia hopes her appearance on the show will help others feel safer being honest about who they are.

‘Hopefully I can be a permission slip for people who want to be truthful to themselves,’ she said.

That honesty carried through to her conversation with groom Grayson, who Julia said responded with openness and respect when she shared her sexuality.

‘It was really great to know he was open-minded,’ she said.

‘I felt comfortable sharing that with him and it brought us closer.’

While Julia’s bisexuality marked a rare and meaningful moment for the franchise, the experiment itself quickly fell back into familiar MAFS territory.

The wedding took place at the Sydney Opera House, a location Julia described as ‘breathtaking’ and surreal.

'My bisexuality isn't my whole identity,' she said. 'It's just a part of me that I've embraced'

‘I actually gasped when I realised we were getting married there,’ she said. ‘It didn’t feel real.’

She admitted her initial nerves were less about marriage and more about logistics.

‘I kept thinking I hope I’m not getting married on grass because my heels were very pointy,’ she laughed.

‘I just wanted to feel something – chemistry, spark or safety – and I did,’ she said. ‘I felt safe.’

The wedding itself was unusually smooth by MAFS standards, with both families getting along and no explosive drama overshadowing the ceremony.

‘It was polished, classy and aligned with who I am,’ Julia said.

However, the calm didn’t last long once the couples entered the experiment proper.

Julia admitted she was well aware of the chaos that typically erupts at dinner parties but said being there in person was confronting.

‘Being in the room is a whole other thing,’ she said. ‘I tried to be a voice of reason, but it is MAFS after all.’

Despite working in the entertainment space, Julia said she never worried about the show damaging her reputation.

‘It’s actually been really liberating,’ she said. ‘The world needs more representation of grounded, relatable bisexual people.’

Asked what viewers should take away from her journey, Julia kept it simple.

‘I’m not judgemental,’ she said. ‘I wear my heart on my sleeve. I’m genuine and authentic.’
