The Artful Dodger star Maia Mitchell has revealed whether her iconic Aussie sitcom Mortified will ever get a reboot, and her tease sounds pretty damn promising.
Maia starred as Brittany Flune, the neighbour of main character Taylor Fry (Marny Kennedy), in the beloved kids show back in 2007 when she was just 12 years old.
It only ran for two seasons (blasphemy!), but Mortified has enjoyed a cult-like following in the vein of H2O:Just Add Water and The Saddle Club in the decades since it first graced our screens.
So much so that fans have long begged for Mortified to make a triumphant return, and it’s prospect Maia said is “genuinely not out of the question”.
“Me and Marny have been talking about it,” Maia told PEDESTRIAN.TV. “We’re still in contact with everyone on the show, so we are talking about doing a reunion.”
The mention of a reunion is enough to have now-adult Mortified fans in full-blown nostalgia mode, but Maia didn’t stop there.
“You can actually rent out the Mortified house, so I think we’re gonna have a little reunion and rent it out and then I don’t know, maybe we pitch [the reboot],” Maia said. “It’s actually genuinely not out of the question. It could be an amazing TV movie or something.”

We don’t have official confirmation beyond Maia’s teases, but with the two stars on the case, we can still hold out hope that we’ll catch up with the folks of Sunburn Beach sometime soon.
It’d certainly be a welcome return in Maia’s case, since she only has fond memories of working on the show all those years ago.
“I feel so proud of that show. I think it’s what I get recognised for most,” Maia told PEDESTRIAN.TV. “That was my first job and it was the best entry into the industry that I could have ever had. I’m really glad that I got to experience set life, even 20 years ago. It was a dream job and I’m always really grateful for it.”
While we’ll have to wait to (hopefully) see Maia back in the Mortified universe, she’s one of Australia’s brightest budding stars, so she’s everywhere.
She starred opposite Ross Lynch in Disney Channel’s Teen Beach Movie franchise, and appears more recently in season two of the Disney+ series, The Artful Dodger.

The new batch of episodes dropped on Tuesday, and they’re packed to the brim with Aussie stars as well as Love Actually’s Thomas Brodie-Sangster.
You can stream season two now on Disney+, but no word (yet) on where the Mortified reboot will land besides our wildest dreams. Watch our full interview with Maia Mitchell below.
