According to Internet lore, Marc Jacobs Beauty is officially coming back. Finger-on-the-pulse beauty account @trendmood1 posted on Instagram this morning that at yesterday’s NYFW runway show, Marc Jacobs Beauty was credited as the makeup partner (Marc himself confirmed it here). Perth born makeup artist Thomas DeKluyver was the creative director behind the look – pastel shadow, concentrated pink blush, thick black liner and oxblood lips. And as far as runway beauty goes, it was some of the best I’ve seen in a really long time.

If you’re thirty-something, chances are you remember the original March Jacobs Beauty products. The products originally launched in 2013 as a joint venture with Kendo Brands (who are also behind Fenty Beauty), and it was an instant cult. The Coconut Primer was constantly sold out; the mascara was one of the best on the market at the time. I was also a huge fan of the jumbo bronzers and kohl liners. It was a rare brand that married performance with ease of use while feeling very fashion-adjacent. Lots of colour, but also a focus on dewy, healthy-looking skin. There was a period of mourning when it unexpectedly discontinued in 2021. The fragrance portfolio remained, but the makeup disappeared. The small but loyal fanbase has had questions ever since.

Fortunately in 2023, Business of Fashion reported that the brand was returning under a new deal with Coty, who also own the licensing rights to the fragrance portfolio. We’ve not heard many updates since, not to mention it’s been reported that Coty has been struggling financially and potentially looking to offload some of its brand portfolio. But, this indication that DeKluyver used Marc Jacobs Beauty formulas to create the runway look is as promising as any news. There’s not any information on what the product lineup will look like, or if any of the original hero formulas will return, but we can hope (manifest).
