Glamorous travel influencer is bombarded with death threats after brutal review of ‘most disgusting city in Italy’ that ‘smells of urine’

A travel content creator has received serious backlash after sharing her experience and opinion of Bologna in Italy.

Karo, who goes by @karosolotravel on TikTok, recently uploaded a video of her take on the Italian city after visiting.

She called it the ‘most disgusting city in Italy’ and described the ‘smell of urine everywhere’.

‘Its filthy, and you can tell it hasn’t been cleaned in years,’ Karo added. ‘Why aren’t the city authorities cleaning the streets and buildings? Those orange buildings are black. And that awful stench.’

She was hoping to tuck into some authentic Bolognese whilst there but ‘felt like vomiting and barely ate a thing’ in the end.

Karo’s video attracted a whopping 400,000 views and hundreds of comments, but not all of the responses have been pleasant for the influencer.

She revealed to Corriere Di Bologna her horrible experience with online trolls and nasty comments – with some even going as far as leaving death threats.

‘They send me coffin emojis in messages and comment telling me not to come back and to stay home. It’s terrible,’ Karo told the publication.

The worst Italian city I’ve ever been to. It smell of urine everywhere, it’s filthy, and you can tell it hasn’t been cleaned in years. Why aren’t the city authorities cleaning the streets and buildings? Those orange buildings are black. And that awful stench. I came here to eat pasta bolognese, but I felt like vomiting and barely ate a thing! Why do people on TikTok recommend Bologna? It’s disgusting! I fled Bologna for Rimini, gave up on my hotel, and lost my money. #bologna #italy #travel #dc #foryou

Despite the backlash, she still stands by her choice to share the video and even found many agree with her views.

Karo hopes it ‘leads to an improvement in the city’s cleanliness’. She added: ‘I noticed that I arrived just before the local elections, so I hope that after my video, the city’s cleanliness will improve permanently.’

The travel content creator described Bologna as ‘beautiful’ ad ‘rich in history’ – and urged for it to not be left ‘so neglected’.

In the end, Karo cut her trip to Bologna short and she revealed in the video caption how she went to Rimini instead.

She ‘gave up’ on her hotel and ‘lost’ money because of the change of plans.

Karo has jetted around the world to 60 different countries and she shared how she doesn’t usually post negatively about the cities she visits.

‘I didn’t mean to offend anyone. I simply expressed my opinion on what I saw and heard in the city,’ she emphasised.

The holidaymaker explained how with paying a tourist tax to visit Bologna, she expects to see ‘at least decent cleanliness’ as she’s exploring the destination and ‘beautiful monuments’.

Another Italian city, Milan, recently made headlines for a very different reason after it was crowned as the ‘top trending city’ to visit in 2026 by TimeOut.

The capital is well-known for hosting popular Milan Fashion Week.

Some of the city’s cheapest bars offer excellent prices too, especially given it’s such a popular destination.

Prices begin from just €3 (£2.60) at bars such as Spank, according to MisterGoodBeer.
