Tokayev: Our Commitment to Stability & Credibility is Not a Diplomatic Slogan, but a Strategic Choice

Astana — At a moment when geopolitical fault lines are shifting and global power balances are being fundamentally recalibrated; reliability has become the ultimate measure of influence in international affairs. In this article, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev presents a confident vision of Kazakhstan’s role as a steady and trustworthy partner to the United States, while offering a sharp and timely assessment of the future of the international order. With clarity and strategic candor, the article explores mounting pressures on global stability and advances a compelling case for pragmatic leadership in a world gradually abandoning illusions in favor of realism, responsibility, and results.
In his article published in The National Interest, President Tokayev — known for his clarity and strategic frankness — emphasizes that the global loss of trust was not accidental, but reinforced by the exposure of widespread corruption across public institutions, international structures, and domestic policies of major powers. The involvement of prominent political figures in these issues has deepened public skepticism toward governments, particularly those associated with left-leaning ideological agendas, leading to declining confidence in the traditional international system.
Commitment to Stability and Credibility
President Tokayev stresses that Kazakhstan’s commitment to stability and credibility is not merely a diplomatic slogan, but a strategic choice reflecting political maturity and a desire for a world governed by law, accountability, and mutual respect.
He adds that the international arena is witnessing a growing shift toward pragmatism and realism — a trend clearly reflected at the recent Munich Security Conference, where leading Western figures emphasized a simple truth: national interests cannot be ignored, sovereignty cannot be treated as a burden, and stability cannot be built on ideology alone. The world is not moving away from cooperation, but from illusions. The new approach is grounded in law, responsibility, credible commitments, and respect for cultural and national identity. This, the president emphasizes, is not isolation, but an expression of political maturity.
President Tokayev explains: “One of the most prominent features of this shift is the failure of the old model to resolve conflicts. For too long, the international community relied on endless cycles of negotiations, statements, and conferences without achieving tangible results. The outcome was always the same: agreements without implementation, diplomacy without results, and peace processes without peace.”
A Reliable and Honest Partner to America
In this context, President Tokayev declares that Kazakhstan will remain a reliable and sincere partner to the United States, committed to practical responsibility and realistic diplomacy. The world is entering an era in which stability has become one of the rarest strategic resources, as conflicts intensify, geopolitical competition deepens, and international institutions suffer from paralysis, polarization, and declining public trust.
Globalization in its traditional form once represented a rational model for building an integrated and inclusive international system. Over time, however, it evolved into a framework built on excessive ideological assumptions: inclusivity without responsibility, freedoms without limits, and moral superiority that disregards the perspectives of sovereign societies and pragmatic policymakers. As a result, globalization has lost credibility among hundreds of millions worldwide, and the world can no longer afford this approach.
Peace Council to Deliver Practical Solutions
In this context, the creation of a Peace Council — initiated by Donald Trump and endorsed by the United Nations — represents an important step toward delivering practical solutions rather than merely symbolic discussion platforms. The initiative offers an innovative approach: peace is not just a slogan, but a project based on sustainable economic development through infrastructure, investment, job creation, and building a future in which conflict becomes less rewarding. This approach has earned the respect of the international community.
According to President Tokayev, Kazakhstan supports these principles in practice, not just in form — reflected in its participation in the Peace Council and its tangible support for its initiatives. This policy also represents a natural extension of its participation in the Abraham Accords, while maintaining balance between relations with Israel and support for the Palestinian people, and defending the two-state solution as a sustainable foundation for peace. This strategy also reflects Kazakhstan’s national interests in strengthening economic cooperation, attracting investment, transferring advanced technology, and expanding dialogue between the Islamic and Jewish worlds.
