LAURA CRAIK: Anya’s looking disarming at Dior’s big show

At the Christian Dior show in Paris yesterday, Jonathan Anderson was firmly betting on lilies as a licence to print money. Or rather, Monet.

The French artist was one of the inspirations behind the Northern Irish-born designer’s first autumn/winter collection for Dior since being appointed creative director of the LVMH-owned house in 2025.

Against the stunning backdrop of the Jardin des Tuileries and a pond floating with tranquil water lilies – Monet’s most painted flower – models took to the catwalk in a series of floral looks that were as spring-like as the weather.

Making her second catwalk appearance for Dior was the aptly named Sunday Rose Kidman, 17, the daughter of actress Nicole Kidman.

Sunday Rose was dressed in a textured black jacket, a draped skirt in an abstract lily print and pink T-bar sandals decorated with roses.

The floral theme ran through the collection, and included frothy tulle mini-skirts whose hems looked like petals blooming in the sun. Drawing on the classic Dior Bar jacket, Anderson changed the proportions, shortening the waist and adding dramatic peplums.

Actress Anya Taylor-Joy, 29, wore a hot-off-the-catwalk pink moire silk dress to sit front row.

She was joined by model Alexa Chung, singer and Will Smith’s daughter Willow, actresses Isabelle Adjani and Charlize Theron, and Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin. This was in addition to newly minted Dior brand ambassador, British actress Florence Hunt, 19, who plays Hyacinth Bridgerton in the hit Netflix series.

If Anderson focused on Dior’s Bar jacket then Anthony Vaccarello centred on YSL’s Smoking jacket. Not only is brown the new black – judging by its dominance on the catwalk, it’s also the new red, yellow, pink and blue next season. The YSL show was watched by actresses Michelle Pfeiffer, Zoe Kravitz, Olivia Wilde

and Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, as well as the British models Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Iris Law and Lila Moss.

Lila’s mother Kate, 52, a longstanding brand ambassador, made her first appearance on the Paris Fashion Week front row after closing the Gucci show in Milan on Friday.
