The Imams Council of Michigan has released a statement condemning ‘in the strongest possible terms’ the attack at Temple Israel.
‘Violence against any house of worship, whether in the United States or abroad, and regardless of faith, denomination or community, is an attack on all people of faith and on the fundamental principles of religious freedom and human dignity,’ the group said.
‘Islam teaches that all places where God’s name is remembered deserves protection,’ it continued, saying ‘regardless of who the perpetrator may be or their motives, attacking houses of worship and endangering innocent lives is morally wrong and a grave sin.
‘The Imams Council of Michigan stands in full solidarity with all impacted by today’s events,’ the statement continued.
‘In times like these, our shared commitment to peace, compassion and mutual protection must prevail over hatred and violence.’
