In news that’ll make you feel ancient, Hannah Montana has officially turned 20, and Miley Cyrus has spilled bulk tea about her time on the iconic Disney Channel sitcom.
Cyrus sat down for a wide-ranging gabfest with Call Her Daddy’s Alex Cooper as part of the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, which dropped on Disney+ on Tuesday and celebrated the two decades since the itchy-wigged superstar last graced screens.
From crushes on her co-stars to Taylor Swift cameos and mentions of her feud with her dad, here’s all the bombshells Cyrus dropped in the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special.
Miley Cyrus and her dad “are good”
Miley vaguely addressed her beef with Billy Ray Cyrus, which dominated headlines in 2025 before an ultimate reconciliation between the father-daughter duo last June. “I’m really excited for him to be here,” Cyrus said during the special.
“I know how much our relationship means to everyone that watched this show. I think when me and my dad are good, people feel better. It just feels good when the Cyruses are getting along,” the pop star added.
It was a sweet moment that felt full-circle for many fans, since Hannah’s relationship with her dad is central to the series. Adding extra sweetness, Billy Ray was present during the anniversary taping, while Cyrus’ mum Tish Cyrus and older sister Brandi Cyrus attended the premiere. She’s right, it does feel good when they’re all getting along.

Miley Cyrus crushed hard on co-star Mitchel Muso
Cyrus also revealed she had a thing for Mitchel Muso, the actor who played Oliver and who may or may not have smoked pot on the Hannah Montana set. “I thought Mitchel Musso was really cute,” Cyrus said, adding that she ditched her pre-Disney crush because she was “all about” her co-star.
“So I was like, ‘OK, bye, Jeff’. It’s all about Mitchell now. I was like, ‘Great! Crush. I’m good now. I’m set up’.” It certainly throws a spanner in the works given that Oliver dated Hannah’s BFF Lily (Emily Osment) on the show, but who isn’t fond of a little love triangle?

Emily Osment and Mitchel Musso were not in the Hannah Montana anniversary special
Speaking of which, Osment confirmed she was unable to appear in the special because she was busy filming another project, but still reflected on how the sitcom “taught me discipline, patience, timing and respect working in an adult space so young”. Musso also didn’t attend, but sent his love in an Instagram Post.

“Hannah Montana wrapped around my heart and never really let go. We literally grew up with ya’ll — long days, crazy schedules, learning lines, cracking up between takes, and figuring out life while the cameras rolled,” Musso wrote.
How Taylor Swift ended up in the Hannah Montana movie
Cyrus told us to “get the tea kettle” when discussing how Taylor Swift ended up with a brief role in Hannah Montana: The Movie, and also warned there was “no shade” to the story.
“So the way that Taylor Swift ended up in the Hannah Montana movie was because this was kind of the beginning of her career, and they were looking for someone that would authentically — no shade, I guess — be performing in a barn,” Cyrus said.

If you recall, Swift appears in the movie shortly before the “Hoedown Throwdown” scene, and it was very much within the realm of the singer’s then-country era. Plus, Swift wrote the finale song for the movie, which Cyrus called a “banger [that] stands the test of time”.
“She ate with that one,” Cyrus said.
Miley Cyrus spilled on dating Disney legends
On the romance front, Cyrus opened up about dating Dylan Sprouse and Nick Jonas, two Disney icons in their own right as the stars of Suite Life and Camp Rock, respectively.
“Secretly, OK, Dylan Sprouse was my boyfriend. I think he was the cutest,” singer said. If you recall, this romance was only rumoured back in the day, but Cyrus has now confirmed she even went on dates with Dylan and his twin brother Cole Sprouse.
“It was a two-for-one — like, bring the brother!” she said.
Cyrus has rarely commented on her brief relationship with Jonas in 2006, but in the special, she revealed the Jonas brother came on tour with her simply because she wanted to be with her boyfriend at the time.

“I’d be like, ‘OK, well, I’ll go on tour if my boyfriend can come’, and they’re like, ‘cute, have your boyfriend open for the show.’ Boom,” Cyrus revealed.
Selena Gomez “felt ugly” on the Hannah Montana set
In a delightful Disney Channel crossover, Wizards of Waverly Place star Selena Gomez made a surprise appearance in the Hannah-versary special, recalling her three-episode stint on Hannah Montana.
“I remember being in that blue, weird makeup,” Gomez said of an alien costume she had to wear. “I remember feeling ugly in that, because we’re like 15 and I want to feel pretty, and I’m like, ‘Ugh’,” the singer added.

As for the in-show feud Gomez’s character had with Hannah, well, Cyrus confirmed “we can make amends now”. Nature is healing!
Miley Cyrus resurrected Hannah Montana‘s best bits
Alongside all the behind-the-scenes tea, the special also made room for the return of a bunch of nostalgic and iconic moments from Hannah Montana. In what marked its first rendition in 15 years, Cyrus began the special by performing “Best of Both Worlds”. Because, duh!
She also performed Hannah staples “This Is The Life” and “The Climb”, even though just three tracks is not nearly enough.
In other long-awaited resurrections, Cyrus also recreated Hannah Montana’s iconic vocal riff transitions and even revived the heavily-memed finale scene where Hannah looks longingly through her house window.
All that while inside an actual replica of the real Hannah Montana house? Yeah, my inner-child is officially weeping.
