Cruise ship horror as passenger is found dead during a 12-day voyage around New Zealand

A passenger has died during a 12-day cruise sailing from Sydney to New Zealand, sparking an urgent investigation.

Police were notified of the unexplained death on board the Anthem of the Seas ship about 1.40am on Wednesday. 

Officers are investigating the circumstances.

The ship carrying more than 4,000 passengers and around 1,300 crew was bound for Waitangi in the Bay of Islands. 

It left Sydney on March 22, according to the website Cruisemapper, before reaching New Zealand on Wednesday.

The Daily Mail has contacted the cruise operator, Royal Caribbean for comment.

Royal Caribbean offers cruises to luxurious locations such as the Caribbean, the South Pacific, Australia and New Zealand. 

Anthem of the Seas is part of the company’s Quantum Class, with a total of 16 decks and 2,090 staterooms on board.
