A Bunch Of Celebs Are Apparently Fuming Over The ‘Unforgiving’ Oscar Afterparty Lighting

A bunch of celebs who attended Vanity Fair’s Oscars afterparty are apparently fuming over what is the ultimate cardinal sin in Hollywood: bad lighting.

Rumblings of unimpressed guests at the ritzy afterparty come courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, which heard from various anonymous insiders for a very important investigation hilariously called ‘Oscar Party Light-Mare’.

The story goes that the red carpet event, which took place immediately after the Oscars ceremony on Monday, suffered a lighting crisis this year after it was moved from its old stomping ground to the new location of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

“It was so crazy-bright there, I felt like I was standing under klieg lights,” one mystery guest told THR of the red carpet lighting. Another apparently joked that they were having “hot flashes” under the intensity of the “hundred degree” heat of the lights.

Since Hollywood famously goes to great lengths to rid itself of imperfections, the glaring exposure and subsequent photos apparently sent some guests into a tizzy — since no one understands champagne problems quite like an A-list celebrity.

“It was just so unforgiving,” a Vanity Fair insider told THR. “Like being shot in extremely high-def. You saw a lot of excess pounds and wrinkles that used to be hidden. Nobody wants to be photographed like that!”

Why does no one want to be photographed like that, you ask? Because aging gracefully or showing even an ounce of real human-ness is not Hollywood’s bag. Duh!

The photos were so exposing that one attendee was reduced to tears, an anonymous guest claimed. “I genuinely feel bad for some of these women,” they said.

“One poor actress was on her phone looking at her pictures and shrieking at her publicist. I heard that she went home and cried herself to sleep. Nobody has heard from her since!”

That same insider said the actress “looked like a Diane Arbus character” — a comment which fans of the photographer, known for her outcast subjects, will know is not exactly complimentary.

The outcry was especially loud because the Vanity Fair afterparty is usually known for its terrific red carpet lighting in past years — to the point where, as one attendee brutally put it, “even the ugliest stars knew they’d come out all right” in photographs. Ouch!

Before you ask, THR stopped short of naming names, leaving us to imagine which guests wished they’d packed their portable ring light.

Despite the ‘light-mare’, one party-goer said they’d “still go next year” provided Vanity Fair “doesn’t hire the same lighting designer”.

This year’s Vanity Fair afterparty was attended by the likes of Kris Jenner, Nicole Kidman, Bella Hadid, Jacob Elordi and kylie Jenner, just to name a few.

One person probably pleased by the lighting debacle? Jake Shane, since it takes the heat off his divisive afterparty coverage. Or given the lighting, maybe it intensifies the heat?
