Adolescence Fan Notices Huge Spoiler In The First Episode

Eagle-eyed fans of Netflix’s latest drama Adolescence have uncovered a big spoiler in the first few minutes of the four-part series. So, if you haven’t seen it yet, please take this as a spoiler warning.

The mini-series which launched on the streaming platform on March 13 follows the story of a 13-year-old boy named Jamie (Owen Cooper) who is arrested after being suspected of the murder of a female classmate. The show is filmed in one continuous, eerie shot as Jamie and his family navigate the legal system.

The series has been praised for the way it touches on important themes such as masculinity, the rise of misogyny and red pill ideology in young boys and the dangers of social media.

After watching the poignant series, TIkToker Kashi Ibbotson (@kashi_ibbotson) took to Instagram to share a scene which she believed foreshadowed Jamie’s fate.

In the first episode, the police are shown bursting into Jamie’s room to arrest him for the murder while he is in bed. While Jamie looks terrified by the ambush, Kashi points out that Jamie puts his hand on the wall where a bit of wallpaper has come off.

She believes that the mark looks like a knife and that his hand being positioned above it is a deliberate gesture.

“This cannot have been an accident,” she captioned the video.

“This cannot have been an accident. The level of detail in this show made it a masterpiece.”

In the comments, fans agreed with her theory and praised the show for its attention to detail.

“I kept looking at the tear on the wall. It bothered me but I didn’t put it together. Brilliant!” commented a TikToker.

“The level of detail is immense. Unfortunately, there are so many who haven’t noticed any of it. This series has slapped me in the face and I’m not sure if I’ll get over it,” said another.

The series, directed by Philip Baranti, managed to get 24.3 million views within its first four days on the streaming platform. Clearly, it’s strong messaging and detail-oriented storytelling has hit a nerve with viewers.

Speaking to The Sun, an insider source said that another season of the hit series could be on the cards.

“Execs are thrilled by the results and acclaim for Adolescence, it’s seen as a format that can run and run, at least to a second series if not further, as it could take in a different teen issue each series,” they said.

“The topic has resonated with viewers because it taps into parents biggest fear and there’s plenty of scope for more in the same vein.

“Stylistically, the one-take creative approach could become the hallmark of the series. It’s one of the aspects which has got everyone talking.”
