All The Songs From Beetlejuice: The Musical Ranked

When you combine campy goth and theatre kids together, you get Beetlejuice: The Musical! And to get you prepped on all the songs, spookiness and death, here are all the Beetlejuice: The Musical songs, ranked.

As a theatre geek who has an interest in the supernatural (and the macabre topic of death), Beetlejuice: The Musical is something I LIVE for.

I remember the first time I ever came across Beetlejuice: The Musical, it was via the glorious brain of Trisha Paytas, who covered one of its iconic tracks in one of her famous parody/cover YouTube videos.

Take a peep below for the madness:

But now, the show has officially made its way Down Under (minus-Beetle-Trish).

Up until August 3, Melbourne’s Regent Theatre will be hosting the sensational show! And as someone who has had the pleasure to watch the live premiere performance — which starred Eddie Perfect as Beetlejuice, Karis Oka as Lydia Deetz, Elise McCann as Barbara, Rob Johnson as Adam, Erin Clare as Delia and Tom Wren as Charles — it’s truly a musical to die for.

To get you hyped on all things sing-songy and spooky, I’ve decided to rank all the tracks from Beetlejuice: The Musical. But before y’all come for my necks, here are some game rules:

  • Ranks might be swayed ‘cos slow ballads kill me.
  • TikToks of the US Tour got me hyped on some of the songs.
  • Every single song was soooo bloody good, IMO.

So, without further ado, here’s the Beetlejuice: The Musical songs ranked from Meh to WOWZA.

18. “Fright of Their Lives”

Unfortunately, with every ranking, something has to come in last. In this case, it’s “Fright of Their Lives”. I don’t really hate anything about this track, but it’s just my least favourite because it wasn’t as memorable as the other tracks. Sorry not sorry!

17. “Dead Mom”

While I found this song sweet and important to the story, it just felt very Olivia Rodrigo-esque to me (BTW, huge Olivia fan here). I think I’m just a sucker for the more dramatic, dancey, moments of the musical!

16. “Prologue: Invisible”

OK, I know this is quite low on the list, but again I DON’T HATE what’s below the top 10. I just felt like I loved other songs more. Despite its spot on this god forsaken list, it was a cute opening song and super emotional. Lydia is THAT gothic diva.

15. “Invisible (Reprise) / On The Roof”

I think I’ve made it pretty clear on where I stand about slow, sad songs — even thought, I know it’s necessary to the storytelling — but with Beetlejuice taking on the reins on this moment, it just makes it a tad better. Maybe it’s because I don’t take things too seriously? IDK, but he really made this song!

14. “Barbara 2.0”

Another fun power anthem from the wholesome diva that is Barbara. While I do like the “Ready Set (Reprise)” a tad bit more, I can’t fault this power ballad.

13. “Jump in the Line (Shake, Señora) / Dead Mom (Reprise) / Home (Reprise) / Day-O (The Banana Boat Song) [Reprise]”

The final song is like all my favourite songs of Beetlejuice: The Musical (minus “What I Know Now”) all rolled up into one delicious fruit loop. It’s also the perfect mix to close out such spooky, kooky, musical! PLUS, I loved that they… nevermind. No spoilers here!

12. “Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)”

Okay, I had to rank this quite high because it’s such an iconic song!!! Delia’s speech before jumping into the track was also so much fun. It’s a vibrant and remarkable rendition of a memorable scene.

11. “Say My Name”

I remembered when I first encountered this song outside of seeing the musical via TikTok, and it lived in my mind rent-free!!! There’s just something about Lydia going “Beeetlejuice… Beetlejuice… BEEEEEEEE” that tickles my brain.

10. “Ready Set (Reprise)”

STOPPP, this was like Barbara’s Reputation era. Love a lady that takes bloody charge!!!

9. “The Whole ‘Being Dead’ Thing Part Two”

UGH, this song was just sooooooo much fun, raunchy and catchy. I even caught myself humming “Hi! I’ll be your guide” during the intermission. And honestly, if I (god forbid and knock on wood) croaked, I wouldn’t mind this being the first tune I heard.

8. “The Whole ‘Being Dead’ Thing”

I thought this was a perfect pick-me-up after the prologue. After all, it’s a musical about death, and the first song definitely sets that scene, but as someone who’s drawn to drama and chaos, this track just kicked it up a notch!

7. “Ready, Set, Not Yet”

Even in the movie, I’ve always had such a connection to Adam and Barbara. I’m not gonna lie, when I first watched Beetlejuice (the movie), I cried when they died. They were just so darn happy and BOOM, they’re dead. This sequence just adds that extra depth to their characters and what they hoped to accomplish before they carked it (respectfully).

6. “Creepy Old Guy”

Chucking it in on number six because this is now the song I’ll play in my head when I swipe through Hinge, Tinder and whatever app I’ve decided to download and then delete.

5. “Girl Scout”

While some people might argue that this is a kiddie song, I found it fun, refreshing and silly.

4. “No Reason”

It’s no secret that Delia was definitely my favourite character of the show, and out of the songs she had a main part in, this one was definitely my favourite. I kinda love how the song felt like a debate between trusting the universe and being realistic — something that my TikTok FYP constantly does when it’s all tarot readers vs motivational speaking influencers.

3. “Home”

OK, OK. I know I said earlier on, I’m not much of a ballad fan, but this one just struck a nerve — especially as a mama’s girl. Lydia’s voice truly encompassed that ‘acceptance’ part of grieving. Just like the title, the song felt familiar… it felt like home.

2. “That Beautiful Sound”

While obviously I felt weird about Lydia and Beetlejuice sharing a house together alone (spoiler alert, sorta), I did really enjoy this sequence. The song itself is so bright and preppy, and the performances by everyone were just *chef’s kiss*. A spooky girl’s delight!

1. “What I Know Now”

IDC that this is one of the infamous TikTok songs — seeing this live was just amazing! The song itself is not only catchy, but the dancing, the characters, the performance and Miss Argentina herself were just so iconic. Such a gorgiana moment to keep the audience hooked during Act Two.

Beetlejuice: The Musical is playing exclusively at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre. You can buy a seat to the show right here!
