There might not even be a script yet, but Amanda Seyfried is already taking casting into her own hands for Mamma Mia 3.

During the promo run for her new film The Housemaid, the actress spoke about the long-awaited threequel while strapped into Vanity Fair’s Lie Detector Test with her co-star Sydney Sweeney.
It was first announced in 2020 that a third film in the Mamma Mia franchise was in development, with songs from ABBA’s comeback album Voyage expected to make up the soundtrack.
Since then, several cast members — including Meryl Streep — have said they would love to do it. Now, this doesn’t really make sense considering (spoiler alert) Meryl’s character Donna died in the second film, but just go with it.

Will Sabrina Carpenter appear in Mamma Mia 3?
Amanda has now given an update on the film and revealed during her lie detector test that she still hasn’t seen a script.
The Oscar nominee was also asked whether she thinks Sabrina Carpenter would be the best choice to play her daughter in the film.
Rumours have been circulating for over a year that the pop star is set to enter the Mamma Mia Cinematic Universe (MMCU), especially after she sang a cover of the title song on her recent tour. While Amanda initially expressed interest in Sabrina playing her daughter, the actress gave a mixed response this time around.
“If they aged me up, yes, it would be really fantastic to work with her. But I’m not ready to be 60,” she explained. “I think I would have to be 50 in order for that to make sense — and I don’t want to play 50 yet, I’m happy to play 40.”
Look, she’s got a point. There’s only a 14-year age gap between Amanda and Sabrina. Plus, Amanda’s character Sophie was 25 when she gave birth to her son in Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!, so it doesn’t really make sense that the now-40-year-old would also have a 26-year-old daughter.
However, I will point out that Cher played Meryl Streep’s mother in the second film and there’s only a three-year gap between them. That’s Hollywood, baby!
Sabrina might not be the only new cast member joining the MMCU (it’s a thing, okay) as Sydney Sweeney put her hand up during the Lie Detector Test.
“Could I be your random sister in the new film?” she asked Amanda after admitting she’s a “big fan”.
“Yes!” Amanda replied. “Yeah, you should be in it.”
Polygraph operator Stephanie confirmed that Amanda was telling the truth, but we’ll see if the idea actually comes to fruition. Actually, at this rate, we should probably just cross our fingers that the movie gets made at all.
