American tourist, 55, who vanished from cruise ship is found safe on Caribbean island… as questions swirl about what she was up to

An American woman who mysteriously disappeared from a cruise ship in the Caribbean has been found.

Ann Evans, 55, vanished during an organized island tour on Sint Maarten, east of Puerto Rico, on November 20.

In an update on Friday, the Police Force of Sint Maarten said: ‘Following coordination between KPSM and other partners, contact has been made with the individual in question.

‘In accordance with the laws governing privacy and the protection of personal data, no additional information will be released about the individual or their circumstances.’

She was last seen departing the Holland America Line Rotterdam ship that morning before boarding the bus tour but never returned.

Officials hunting for Evans said she got off the bus in Marigot, French Saint Martin, and an update on Thursday said she was spotted checking into a hotel.

Questions still remain over her disappearance. It is unclear at this time if she was traveling on her own, and if she has since returned to the ship.

It is also unclear at this time why the missing persons alert wasn’t issued until a week after she never returned to the ship.

Evans’s trip to the Netherlands-owned island was only the second stop on the cruise.

The ship took off from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on November 16, stopping at Carnival’s private island, Half Moon Cay, before hitting the Dutch-French island.

The boat traveled to St Lucia Island, Tobago, Barbados and more afterward.

According to the Holland America website, the Rotterdam ship is their newest vessel and can house up to 4,173 guests when its staterooms are all fully booked.

The Daily Mail has contacted the cruise liner and the Police Force of Sint Maarten for further comment.
