Americans told not to completely avoid alcohol as teetotal Trump cracks down on booze guidelines

Americans have been urged to drink less alcohol as teetotal Trump cracks down on alcohol recommendations.
In the new dietary guidelines released Wednesday, officials recommended that Americans should ‘consume less alcohol for better overall health’.
They urged pregnant women, those recovering from alcohol use disorder, those taking medications that could interact with alcohol and those who are unable to control the amount they drink to avoid alcohol completely.
The new guidelines did not appear to mention specific daily limits on the amount of alcohol someone should consume.
Previously, this was set at no more than two drinks a day for men and no more than one drink a day for women.
Dr Mehmet Oz, the administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, sai the new guidelines were meant to encourage drinking in moderation.
He said at a press conference: ‘There is alcohol on these guidelines, but the implication is don’t have it for breakfast.’
Trump is a known teetotaller, who has previously said he strongly encouraged all his children not to drink. In a previous interview on his parenting, he said he always told his children: ‘No drugs, no alcohol, no cigarettes.’
The Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F Kennedy Junior has also reportedly been teetotal for decades after struggling with addiction in his earlier years.
In the new dietary guidelines, the section on alcohol reads: ‘Consume less alcohol for better overall health.
‘People who should completely avoid alcohol include pregnant women, people who are recovering from alcohol use disorder or are unable to control the amount they drink, and people taking medications or with medical conditions that can interact with alcohol.’
It adds: ‘For those with a family history of alcoholism, be mindful of alcohol consumption and associated addictive behaviors.’
