Ariana Grande sparks fresh health concerns after battling strained voice on Dancing With The Stars: ‘She is sick as hell’
Ariana Grande has sparked fresh health concerns following a worrying appearance on Dancing With The Stars.
The 32-year-old actress appeared on Tuesday for the show’s Wicked-themed night alongside co-stars Cynthia Erivo and Jonathan Bailey.
The trio had pre-recorded a series of messages that aired throughout the evening – but fans were distracted by Ariana’s voice which sounded hoarse and strained.
‘A charming prince has joined out midst,’ she said following a commercial break, in reference to Jonathan, who plays the role of Prince Fiyero.
And viewers were quick to pick up on the apparent strain in her voice.
‘Ariana was sick as hell omg,’ one shocked fan wrote.
‘Her opening her mouth to breathe occasionally because I know damn well her nose is clogged,’ sympathized another.
Someone else claimed she was ‘smiling through the pain’ as another added: ‘The way it has been getting worse with each interview.’

‘Her annual bronchitis strikes again,’ one fan declared.
In the clip from the DWTS episode, Cynthia asked: ‘What happens when Fiyero comes into the picture?’ whilst whimsical musical played in the background.
Jonathan gave a brief overview of his character’s role in Wicked – as well as the upcoming second installment of the film – by saying: ‘Well, he’s a rebel who thinks it’s his responsibility to corrupt his fellow students.’
‘We learn that there’s more to him than meets the eye but at first he’s content just… dancing through life,’ he quips, referencing a song from the musical.
It’s not the first time Grammy Award winning singer Ariana has been subject of fan concern for her health.
Throughout the promotional tour for Wicked, the star was the subject of discussion about her appearance, with many worried about her slim figure.
Health professionals have long warned that having a visible sternum and gaunt cheeks as an adult may be a sign of health conditions including malnourishment — sparking speculation that Ariana may be suffering health troubles.
Malnutrition is a significant risk factor for ill health.

In an interview with the New York Times in 2024, both Ariana and Cynthia hinted at intensely pressured schedules on the Wicked set, with both contracting Covid during filming.
‘We only got sick once each, but both were before some of the most important works of the whole movie — mine was the week before “Popular,”‘ Ariana said.
‘I came to set with a mask on my final days of recovery to learn the hallway finale.’
When the actors’ strike forced production to a halt in the summer of 2023, Cynthia also admitted she was ‘grateful’ as they had both ‘worked [themselves] to the bone.’
‘At first, it felt like an interruption, and then as it went on, it felt like the rest we needed’, she said.
‘We’d worked ourselves to the bone. I was really grateful.’
