At anti-narcotics meet, Amit Shah calls for tough extradition system against traffickers, gangs

New Delhi: Union home minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said that “deportation and extradition” of those involved in trade in narcotics “is very important”. He was speaking at the inaugural session of the 2nd National Conference of Anti-Narcotics Task Force. The event was attended by ANTF chiefs from 36 states and Union Territories.

Shah said the time has come to bring those who trade in drugs abroad under the grip of Indian law. He noted the “very good job” done by CBI and told ANTF chiefs to contact the CBI director and “create a sure system for extradition that will prove effective not only for drugs, but also for terrorism and gangs”.

Shah said it is important to create a joint mechanism of the Narcotics Control Bureau, CBI and state police to bring back foreign criminals and fugitives involved in drug trafficking. Shah said NIA has registered 18 cases under PIT-NDPS Act (Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act) and started its investigation. Similarly, NCB has started 360-degree investigation in more than 35 cases received from the states.mm

Synthetic drugs, labs in focus

Shah noted that the trend of synthetic drugs and labs will increase in the coming days. He said ANTF chief of every state should keep a close watch and take action to identify and destroy such labs or synthetic drugs.
