Baltimore shooting updates: Officer and suspect wounded in ‘active shooting’ incident near synagogue

In a post on X, Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown said the state’s Independent Investigations Division is present at the scene of the shooting.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said the shooting occurred after an officer responded to a “barricade situation at a residence.”

The Secure Community Network, a Jewish security organization, said that the shooting appears to have been “domestic in nature” and was not targeted at Jewish people.

“SCN is aware of a shooting incident occurring near a Jewish facility in Baltimore,” the organization wrote on X. “At this time, reports citing law enforcement source note that the shooting was domestic in nature; there are no indications that the Jewish community was the target, and there is no known active threat to the community.”

Photos obtained from Citizen, a community safety app, show a heavy police presence in the neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon.

Police reportedly responded to a potential hostage situation before gunshots were fired, according to The Baltimore Sun.

In a 1:14 p.m. update, Baltimore police said that officers are still inside the 6200 block of Park Heights Avenue.

They added that several streets are closed and urged people to stay away from the area.

“We are aware of the police involved shooting in the NWD,” the Baltimore City Fraternal Order of Police wrote on X.

“President Mancuso and State Trustee Cohen are at homicide with our involved members while Guard Glazerman is at Shock Trauma,” the organization said. “All involved members are in good spirits.”

Two police officers were shot and taken to Shock Trauma, according to WBFF, a local news outlet.

They sustained “non-life threatening injuries.”

BPD is on scene of an Active Shooter Incident in the 6200 block of Parl Heights Avenue. An officer has been shot & transported to Shock Trauma. A suspect was also shot. Avoid the surrounding areas. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
