Barbra Streisand is in talks to perform at this year’s Oscars as part of an In Memoriam tribute segment on Robert Redford, sources confirmed to Deadline.
Streisand starred alongside Redford in the 1973 romantic drama The Way We Were directed by Sydney Pollack, the only film they were in together. The title song, written by Alan and Marilyn Bergman and Marvin Hamlisch and sung by Streisand, was Billboard’s No. 1 single of 1974, when it also won the Oscar as well as Song of the Year at the Grammys.
It’s not confirmed if that’s the song in play for a potential Streisand performance. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which has not released many details about this year’s ceremony outside a few presenters, declined comment.
The talks with Streisand were first reported by the California Post.
Redford, who won an Oscar for directing Ordinary People along with an honorary Oscar, died last September at age 89. He had been tipped to be a prominent part of the Oscars’ annual In Memoriam segment, which honor those in the film industry who have died in the past year. That list for this year’s ceremony celebrating the 98th Oscars is also certain to feature names like Rob Reiner, Diane Keaton, Val Kilmer, Brigitte Bardot, and Robert Duvall among others.
This year’s Oscars ceremony is set for Sunday, March 15, airing live on ABC and Hulu.
