We’re nearing the premiere of the 2025 season of Big Brother, and incoming host Mel Tracina has spilled bulk tea about what we can expect from this year’s batch of housemates.

ICYMI, a revival of Big Brother was announced back in September. The upcoming season will mark the show’s 16th overall, and promises the return of the beloved show on its original home of Channel 10 some 17 years after the latest instalment aired on the network in 2008.
In anticipation of the premiere, host Tracina filled us in on all the goss about the 2025 cast, made all-the-more juicy for the fact that Big Brother is known to make stars out of its sometimes iconic, sometimes problematic housemates.

“At the moment, the span of ages is across five decades,” Tracina told The Watchlist of this year’s housemates. While she stopped short of revealing the total number of castmates for season 16, Tracina did spill some vague deets about a few select housemates.
“It’s ranging from a grandmother to a single mum to a barber to a self-confessed bogan,” she said. “We have blue-collar workers and white-collar workers. We have a diverse range.”
The host went on to compare the casting process to that of other Aussie reality shows, saying Big Brother is unique in that housemates “don’t need to fit certain criteria to be in the house”.
“You don’t need to be physically or mentally strong, like you would [on] Survivor. You don’t need to be single, like you would on [Married At First Sight],” Tracina said.
“You don’t need any skill set other than to just be yourself … and to want to be living in a house of strangers,” she added.
Perhaps preempting the tendency for reality TV casts to go batshit insane, Tracina assured us that the Big Brother 2025 housemates will be subject to strict rules, to prevent any additional turkey slaps.
“Anything where the housemates step out of line, there are protocols in place, because we need to keep all the housemates safe,” she said.
Unlike the Channel 7 incarnation of Big Brother, season 16 will go back to basics, complete with live evictions that are determined by public vote, not by those within the house.
We’ll get to see it all go down when the 2025 season of Big Brother begins airing on November 9 at 7pm on Channel 10. Strap in, folks!
