As things appear to spiral from bad to worse to a shitshow for everyone involved in the It Ends With Us legal drama, insiders have dished that we might be just a step shy of bad blood between Blake Lively and Taylor Swift. They’re not beefing, but their once-tight friendship’s not looking too great.
“Taylor and Blake have talked, but it’s strained,” an insider told Us Weekly, adding that the pair are no longer speaking on a regular basis. “Their friendship is not what it used to be.”
The “Cruel Summer” singer was served a subpoena by Justin Baldoni’s lawyers just last week, and she’s pretty keen to be excused from the conversation. In a statement to PEOPLE and other outlets, her spokesperson made it clear that Swift’s involvement with the film was basically non-existent, except for one thing.
“Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film, she did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release, and was traveling around the globe during 2023 and 2024 headlining the biggest tour in history,” they said.
The spokesperson went on to explain: “The connection Taylor had to this film was permitting the use of one song, ‘My Tears Ricochet’.”
According to insiders, all this legal messiness has left her “very uncomfortable”. Plus, they spilled that she’s pretty shocked to find out she was mentioned in work messages sent to Baldoni.
Ever since the legal drama began, Swift’s name has been popping up repeatedly. This includes court documents when Baldoni claimed he was ambushed during a meeting at Lively and husband Ryan Reynolds‘ New York penthouse, where Tay-Tay was in attendance. In one text exchange, Lively referred to herself as Khaleesi (yup, from Game of Thrones) and described Swift as one of her “dragons”.
Per Page Six sources, the singer “can’t help but feel used” by Lively, and TBH, I’d be pretty pissed too.
Sources suggest the friends weren’t even on speaking terms for a sec there.
“They needed space,” a Lively source told Us Weekly, noting that Swift — who wrapped her Eras Tour in December 2024 — “was trying to decompress and enjoy her time off.” Another agreed that Swift “doesn’t want to be in the spotlight [right now].”
Ooof, seriously a bad time to be in Blake Lively’s inner circle in that case.
Sources clarified Swift “isn’t worried about the subpoenas” per se, but she’s trying to steer clear of the headline-making court case. And this spotlight is intense, with the celebrity web around this case expanding fast as Reynolds’ Deadpool vs Wolverine co-star Hugh Jackman also joins the potential witness list.
“Taylor’s biggest issue seems to be protecting herself emotionally and legally,” the source said.
“She’s always been someone who values loyalty, and right now, she’s navigating how to preserve that while also setting boundaries in a complicated, high-stakes situation.”

To recap, Lively and Swift go waaay back, and Tay-Tay’s even the godmother to three to Lively’s four kids. With Travis Kelce entering the picture, insiders dished it’s been pretty much double dates galore.
But like any deep friendship thrown into chaos, the shift is painful. “A shift in a tight bond like that is bound to hurt,” an insider noted, adding that for Swift, it’s not just about the lawsuit, it’s about trust.
So where do they stand now? By the sounds of it, Lively’s apologised for all the stress.
“Taylor is very forgiving, and in her eyes, she still considers Blake a friend. But the lawsuit is still ongoing, and until it’s resolved, [things are] difficult,” sources told Us Weekly.
“They are on OK terms now, but the friendship is still wounded. She’s hopeful they’ll get back to how they were in due time.”
I’m lowkey convinced it’s all bound to inspire another Swift album — but in all seriousness, anyone who’s been through a friendship break-up knows the feels with this one.
