People staying in a hotel were alarmed after a bomb squad was called in to investigate reports of items being thrown through windows.
Officers from ACT Police were called to the Hyatt Hotel Canberra about 8.30am on Wednesday.
Witnesses heard yelling and confusion after the items were thrown into the hotel, where a defence conference was due to take place, according to The Canberra Times.
A federal bomb response team is investigating. There has been no indication as to who was behind the incident.
ADM Congress, an annual summit on Australian defence, was due to kick off at the hotel later on Wednesday.
More to come.
