Bondi Beach shooting LIVE updates: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu launches blistering attack against Anthony Albanese and his ‘flaccid’ government after Bondi Beach terror attack

The youngest victim of the Bondi Beach terrorist attack will be farewelled today, hours after the alleged gunman was charged with dozens of offences.

Ten-year-old Matilda had been enjoying face painting and a petting zoo at a Hanukkah celebration in Bondi shortly before she was among 15 innocent lives killed.

Funerals for three victims will be held on Thursday, including Matilda.

Holocaust survivor Alex Kleytman, 87, and Tibor Weitzen, 78, will also be farewelled.

Alleged gunman Naveed Akram, 24, was charged with 59 offences at his hospital bedside on Wednesday.

They include 15 counts of murder and 40 counts of wounding with intent to murder.

Akram was also charged with one count of committing a terrorist act, one count of discharging a firearm in public, one count of causing a public display of a prohibited terrorist symbol, one count of placing an explosive in or near a building, with intent to cause harm.

He did not appear or apply for bail during a brief bedside court hearing and the case was adjourned until April.

Thirteen of the 15 victims have now been identified.

Other victims included British-born Chabad Rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, Rabbi Yaakov Levitan, 39, French national Dan Elkayam, 27, Wellington Street synagogue assistant Reuven Morrison, Slovak citizen Marika Pogany, 82, retired NSW Police detective sergeant Peter Meagher, 61, Edith Brutman, Boris Gurman, 69, and his wife Sofia, 61, and Soviet immigrant Boris Tetleroyd.

Netanyahu launches another blistering attack against ‘flaccid’ Albanese government

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has taken another brutal swipe at the Australian government and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese over the Bondi Beach terrorist attack.

‘I stated that these heinous acts are a direct result of rampant antisemitism, which is fuelled by a flaccid policy of the authorities in the country and of the Australian government which has a duty to act immediately and with all the tools at its disposal to eradicate terrorism and restore security to the Jewish communities,’ he posted on X on Wednesday night.

Netanyahu made the comments while recalling a phone conversation he had with the father-of-law of Rabbi Eli Schlanger, one of 15 innocent victims killed in the Bondi shooting.

‘On behalf of my wife and all the people of Israel, I expressed my condolences for the profound grief of Rabbi Ullman and the grief of all the families of the victims, and I wished a full recovery to the injured,’ he added.

‘I emphasised that the State of Israel stands alongside the Jewish community in Australia, and I strengthened the Chabad emissaries and all the Jews of Australia—those who stand firm, clinging to great faith and immense spirit in the face of those who seek our harm.’

The latest swipe comes after Netanyahu condemned the Bondi attack as ‘cold-blooded murder’.

He added that he wrote to Albanese back in August warning that his government’s policies were promoting and encouraging antisemitism.

‘I wrote: “Your call for a Palestinian state pours fuel on the antisemitic fire. It rewards Hamas terrorists,’ Netanyahu said.

‘It emboldens those who menace Australian Jews and encourages the Jew hatred now stalking your streets.’

PM won’t attend funeral of 10-year-old Matilda

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has not been invited to the funeral of the youngest victim of the Bondi Beach terrorist attack.

Ten-year-old Matilda had been enjoying face painting and a petting zoo at a Hanukkah celebration shortly before she was shot dead alongside 14 others on Sunday.

Her parents have been critical of Albanese, with Matilda’s father Michael claiming the Prime Minister ‘failed Matilda’.

‘He has betrayed the Jewish people of Australia, and of the whole world,’ he said during a flower memorial at Bondi Beach on Wednesday.

‘Like what the hell is he thinking?’

Matilda’s mother, Valentyna, said the Labor government had failed to act despite concerns raised by the Jewish community.

‘We have been saying (these warnings) for years,’ she said.

‘They didn’t do anything.’

Albanese has previously said he would not attend any funerals for the victims unless invited.

‘I would attend anything that I’m invited to. These are funerals that are taking place to farewell people’s loved ones,’ he said.

The Prime Minister will be at a meeting of the national security committee in Canberra this morning.

Pauline Hanson shares a chilling message that will strike fear into Aussies

Pauline Hanson has shared a set of messages threatening further violence in Sydney following the terror attack at Bondi Beach.

Hanson shared a pair of screenshots that were circulating on Snapchat on Wednesday which stated ‘Islam will rule and you Aussie scum will see that soon’.

Hanson blamed the ongoing tensions between Islamic and Jewish groups in Australia on immigrants entering communities that have been co-existing for years.

‘This is the hate we’ve imported as a result of unfettered, mass immigration,’ she said.

‘It must end!’

Rabbi calls out Australia’s ‘insufficient’ actions

A Sydney rabbi has blasted Australia’s ‘insufficient’ actions in front of Prime Minister Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at a public vigil.

The Great Synagogue chief minister Ben Elton (pictured below on the right) slammed the country’s response to antisemitism at a multi-faith memorial for the Bondi Beach terrorist attack victims at St Mary’s Cathedral on Wednesday night.

He delivered the powerful speech while sitting next to Albanese and NSW Premier Chris Minns.

‘Our grief is limitless and unbearable,’ Rabbi Elton began.

‘Today, I attended two funerals. I have performed many funerals in my years as a rabbi, and I have never known anything like it. Uncontrolled, uncontrollable wailing all around.’

He called for a stop to antisemitism which had ‘run riot’ in Australia since 2023.

‘It has not been checked, it has not been stopped, whatever has been done has been insufficient,’ Rabbi Elton said.

‘On Sunday evening, that became an unarguable fact. The time for evading or muddying the issue is over. The time for distracting, for gaslighting, for manufacturing complexity where it does not exist is over.

‘We can have all the political disagreements in the world, and we should be able to express them reasonably, but hateful rhetoric has to stop. Demonisation has to stop. Pandering to movements that want to kill every Jew, everywhere, has to stop.

‘It calls for all leaders of  all groups to set an example … and to call out when their example is not followed.’

Update on patients

Seventeen people injured in the Bondi Beach terrorist attack remain in hospital.

One remains in a critical condition while four others are critical but stable.

Twelve others are in a stable condition.

‘Patients continue to be discharged. Some patients who are discharged may return to hospital for further care,’ a NSW Health statement read.

Police officers Probationary Constable Jack Hibbert, 22, and Constable Scott Dyson are among those who remain in hospital.

Probationary Hibbert (pictured below) remains in intensive care after undergoing multiple surgeries.

‘Although miraculously surviving, Jack’s injuries have resulted in a loss of vision in one of his eyes and he now faces a long and challenging recovery ahead, with additional surgeries required,’ a statement from the family read.

On the 14th of December, Jack Hibbert was shot while fulfilling his role as a police officer at Bondi Beach.

Josh Frydenberg snaps at ABC host in fiery interview

Former federal treasurer Josh Frydenberg has lashed out at ABC 7.30 host Sarah Ferguson for asking an ‘offensive’ question just hours after he visited the Bondi memorial.

Ferguson observed the former federal treasurer would likely go into politics again at some point and asked how his criticism of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese over the tragedy at Bondi could not be viewed ‘through a political lens’.

‘I’m deeply offended by what you just said. Deeply offended,’ Frydenberg, who has Jewish heritage, said.
