The Buffy The Vampire Slayer reboot sequel series has cast Ryan Kiera Armstrong in a main role, alongside original Buffy actress Sarah Michelle Gellar.
ICYMI, Hulu announced the reboot series back in February, bringing the iconic show back to life after it came to an end in 2003.
With the news of Armstrong’s casting, we’re absolutely buzzing with excitement and can’t wait to see what this new series will bring. Peep all the deets we know about Armstrong, the series’ plot, and more down below!

Who is Ryan Kiera Armstrong and who is her Buffy character?
Armstrong is an actress who began her career in 2017 as Minnie May Barry on the underrated Netflix classic, Anne with an E.
She has also had roles in the Star Wars series Skeleton Crew, the 10th season of American Horror Story, and the 2022 flick Firestarter.

It is not completely known what character Armstrong will play in the upcoming Buffy series, however sources revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that the series will focus on a younger slayer’s journey — which will presumably be Armstrong’s character.
Exact plot details are still pretty hush-hush, but the project is “the next chapter in the Buffyverse”, and we reckon that means Geller might take on a more mentor role and assist Armstrong’s character in the art of vampire slaying, as she is the new Chosen One.
“From the moment I saw Ryan’s audition, I knew there was only one girl that I wanted by my side,” Gellar said in an Instagram post announcing Armstrong’s casting.
“To have that kind of emotional intelligence, and talent, at such a young age is truly a gift.”

Who is returning for the Buffy The Vampire Slayer reboot?
As mentioned earlier, Geller will play a recurring role in the series. However, she’ll play an even bigger part behind the camera as the show’s executive producer.
It is not currently known what other OG Buffy actors will be returning to the silver screen.
Deadline has also reported that Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao is set to direct the series. Original creator and showrunner Joss Whedon will not be involved in the reboot, following accusations of misconduct and bullying from former Buffy staff and beyond.
Hell, even Dolly Parton will be getting an executive producer credit through her Sandollar production company, which will help produce the show.
When will the Buffy The Vampire Slayer reboot air?
Sadly, we do not have a release date as of yet. Hulu has really kept everything under wraps so it’s unclear when we’ll see this show hit our screens.
(I’m secretly hoping for a Halloween-based release date, but that’s probably unlikely.)
That’s all we have so far, folks! I’m more than keen to step back into the Buffyverse once again, and I can only hope it’ll capture the same magic it had when it first aired.
