It appears that Chappell Roan has made an enemy out of a whole nation, with the mayor of Rio De Janeiro banning the “Femininomenon” singer from performing at Todo Mundo No Rio following an alleged bitter encounter with a footballer’s family.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Rio’s mayor, Eduardo Cavaliere, announced that Roan “will never perform” at Todo Mundo no Rio, a music festival described as the “world’s largest dance floor” as it takes place on the city’s Copacabana Beach.
“I mean that as long as I’m in charge of our city — this young lady @ChappellRoan will never perform at Todo Mundo no Rio!” the mayor wrote.
“I doubt that Shakira @shakira @Shakira_Brasil would do that.”
Why was Chappell Roan banned from Todo Mundo no Rio?
The incredibly public callout comes hours after Brazilian pro-footballer Jorginho Frello accused the “HOT TO GO” singer of being rude to his daughter.
In a scathing Instagram Story, the footballer claimed his family experienced a rude encounter with Roan’s security team after his daughter, who was a massive fan, noticed she was staying at the same hotel as the singer ahead of Lollapalooza Brasil.

“I went through a very upsetting situation with my family earlier today,” Frello began.
“My wife Cat Cavelli is in São Paulo for Lollapalooza Brasil. This morning, my daughter woke up incredibly excited, she even made a sign because she was so happy to see an artist she really admires, or used to admire. @chappellroan.
“By coincidence, they’re staying at the same hotel as this artist. During breakfast, the artist walked past their table. My daughter, like any child, recognised her, got excited, and just wanted to make sure it was really her.
“And the worst part is she didn’t even approach her. She simply walked past the singer’s table, looked to confirm it was her, smiled, and went back to sit with her mum. She didn’t say anything, didn’t ask for anything.”
The Campeonato Brasileiro Série A midfielder alleged that “a large security guard” went to his family’s table and began to speak to them in “an extremely aggressive manner”, saying things like “she shouldn’t allow my daughter to ‘disrespect’ or ‘harass’ other people”.

“Honestly, I don’t know at what point simply walking past a table and looking to see if someone is there can be considered harassment,” the footballer wrote.
“He even said he would file a complaint against the hotel, while my 11-year-old daughter was sitting there in tears.”
Frello went on to add that he’s experienced what public exposure is like, especially as a footballer, and understands what it’s like when fans push boundaries. However, in this case, it was just a child admiring their idol.
“It’s sad to see this kind of treatment coming from those who should understand the importance of fans. At the end of the day, they are the ones who build all of this. I sincerely hope this serves as a moment of reflection. No one should have to go through this, especially not a child. @chappellroan,” Frello added.
“WITHOUT YOUR FANS, YOU WOULD BE NOTHING. AND TO THE FANS, SHE DOES NOT DESERVE YOUR AFFECTION.”

Alongside Roan’s ban from the iconic Brazilian music festival, the mayor also invited the footballer’s daughter as a “guest of honour” for this year’s concert.
At the time of writing, Roan has not responded to the footballer’s allegation.
This year’s Todo Mundo no Rio will be headlined by Shakira and has previously seen major acts including Lady Gaga and Madonna.
