Chelsea 3-0 Man United: Blues WIN Women’s FA Cup to seal unbeaten domestic treble in Sonia Bompaster’s excellent debut season – but Sir Jim Ratcliffe is a no-show for Red Devils

The ‘queens of global soccer’ have secured their treble in style, wresting the FA Cup back from Manchester United to complete a flawless domestic campaign.
Sandy Baltimore delivered a sensational performance, scoring twice and assisting Catarina Macario as Chelsea added the FA Cup to their WSL and League Cup triumphs this season.
But the widening gap between the two sides was most glaringly evident off the pitch at Wembley today. United showed resilience in their performance despite the result, but the real contrast came from their respective off-field situations.
Chelsea’s shiny new investor, Alexis Ohanian, conducted a pitch-side interview at half-time, describing how he wants to build ‘the best team in the world’ and the ‘queens of global soccer with the trophy case to prove it’.
While the west London club are set to reap the rewards of Serena Williams’ millionaire husband’s cash injection to take their level to another stratosphere, United continue to be deprived of the adequate support they deserve.

While Skinner shrugged off Ratcliffe’s absence today – ‘I feel the support (from the club) and we need to show it in the right way in the summer’ – Bompastor hailed the importance of Williams’ and Ohanian’s presence at the game.
The French coach said: ‘It’s a big lift. Today shows everyone is really involved in this women’s team and it feels great. I was lucky enough to come from Lyon where it was the case with Jean-Michel Aulas – he was always coming into every game.
‘And I think it’s the most important for people to show their support, coming to the games and having the right words in the moments when you are high, but also when you are low.
‘We had a lot of support from them (Williams and Ohanian) before the week. It just shows as a woman when you play football, that you are in the right club. And you really want to give that back on the pitch for all these people.’
As for the game itself, Skinner made a bold call dropping Ella Toone from the starting line-up, opting to start Grace Clinton for her increased ‘physicality’.
Toone has made a habit of delivering in big moments at Wembley, including scoring the opening goal in last year’s final to help land United’s first major trophy, and her exclusion from the starting line-up was a risk.
Initially, the decision appeared justified, with United – and Clinton in particular – starting hard and well.
United nearly took an early lead when Dominique Janssen found herself in space on the edge of the penalty area, but her shot sailed over the bar. The missed chance seemed to jolt Bompastor’s side into life.

Mayra Ramirez came close moments later and then Sandy Baltimore dragged a shot wide.
With the first half drawing to a close, United conceded a careless penalty after Celin Bizet took Erin Cuthbert down in the box.
Baltimore calmly stepped up and sent Tullis-Joyce the wrong way, placing her shot into the bottom left corner.
Skinner sent Toone on at half-time, but the Lioness was unable to change the game, with another set-piece proving United’s undoing once again – with Catarina Macario glancing in Sandy Baltimore’s curling free-kick.
Baltimore’s Player of the Match status was sealed for certain when she scored from close-range in stoppage time.
