Chelsea owners make ANOTHER Brighton appointment: Former Seagulls technical director joins sister club Strasbourg

Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg have hired David Weir as their sporting director, less than two months after his surprise departure from Brighton.
Daily Mail Sport revealed previously how Weir was a special guest of the Blues when they faced Manchester United away last month in their Premier League clash.
The 55-year-old and his wife sat with the Chelsea hierarchy in the directors’ box, which sparked some speculation given the long list of former Seagulls employees who have gone on to sign up to the BlueCo project.
Now, Weir is becoming the latest to follow that familiar pathway, as he will officially begin working with Strasbourg as of this Saturday.
Weir maintains a strong relationship with Paul Winstanley, Chelsea’s co-sporting director, and the pair will likely work closely given the frequent business conducted between the two linked clubs under the BlueCo umbrella.
Managed by Liam Rosenior, Strasbourg currently have three Chelsea players on loan in Mike Penders, Kendry Paez and Mamadou Sarr. They also signed Ben Chilwell in the summer as he was removed from the books of the Blues, as well as Mathis Amougou. Filipe Coelho likewise stepped down as Chelsea’s Under 21s head coach to become an assistant to Rosenior at the start of this season.
Chelsea have made another former Brighton appointment, with ex-Seagulls technical director David Weir joining Salsbourg
The Blues are in double figures in terms of recruitments from Brighton since BlueCo took over in May 2022
Weir said in a statement: ‘It is a great honour to join Racing, a historic club with a strong identity and growing ambition.
‘I was convinced by the project and the quality of the people already in place. I am eager to settle in Strasbourg and become fully involved in the life of Racing.
‘I look forward to working with Liam and all the teams to contribute to Racing’s success this season and in the years to come.’
Strasbourg president Marc Keller added: ‘I am delighted to welcome David Weir, whose arrival is a continuation of the work already underway to strengthen the club’s sporting structure.
‘He is a respected professional who brings invaluable expertise from the highest level. His experience and competence will be significant assets in supporting Racing’s sporting progress and assisting Liam Rosenior and his staff.’
