Christine Baranski has responded to rumours she is dating musician King Princess, after the pair were spotted holding hands and flaunting their connection on social media.
ICYMI, the actress, 73, and singer, 26, have been enjoying time together out and about in recent months, and were most recently seen attending the re-opening of Mamma Mia! on Broadway earlier this week.
While there, the pair held hands and posed for photos, with King Princess later sharing a snap from the red carpet with the caption “#loveislove”.
Naturally, since it feels like something ripped straight out of Hacks (IYKYK), it wasn’t long before social media was whipped into a speculative frenzy, excitedly reacting to the pair’s supposed romantic relationship.
“My fave thing about this is idk if this is real or not”, one fan wrote under King Princess’ pic, while another said they were “obsessed with whatever is going on here”.
In perhaps the best reaction, Hacks star Hannah Einbinder said exactly what we were all thinking (as mentioned), commenting that the pair have “Ava and Deborah vibes” in reference to the show’s main characters.
Now, Baranski has addressed all the speculation, and please don’t shoot the messenger when I tell you that, unfortunately, the pair’s relationship is purely platonic.
“Christine and King Princess are strictly friends and nothing more,” a representative for the actress told Us Weekly.
“They have never been in a relationship, nor are they now.”
It’s yet more proof that we simply can’t have nice things, with the rep adding that any talk of a romance between the pair (who give Holland Taylor and Sarah Paulson a run for their money) is “purely speculative”.
I appreciate the sentiment, but speculation is exactly what happens when you share loved-up snaps and promptly send gay Twitter into overdrive.

While we mourn the loss of a fan-made relo, we can still enjoy the pair’s clear friendship. Baranski starred opposite the singer in the Nicole Kidman-led second season of Nine Perfect Strangers, which hit screens back in May.
Since then, King Princess has gushed about Baranski (duh! She’s in Mamma Mia!) in an Interview Magazine article, saying the pair had a “first date” where they “profoundly bonded”.
Baranski’s response might be disheartening, but there’s nothing stopping you from continuing to ship the pair in your fanfics.
