Cody Simpson Breaks Silence On Emma McKeon Split In Candid Interview: ‘Special Person’

Cody Simpson has finally broken his silence on his break up from Emma McKeon, weeks after the Aussie pop star and the Olympic swimmer were rumoured to have split.
Cody, who was also a professional swimmer, dated Emma for four years, but reports circulated last month that the pair had amicably split sometime towards the end of 2025.
Speaking on the latest episode of the We Need To Talk with Paul C Brunson podcast, Cody confirmed he’d parted ways with Emma, but said he looks back fondly on their “beautiful” time as a couple.
“[The relationship] ended up being a really beautiful thing for us to do together — moving in together and living that lifestyle together,” Cody said.
“Having Emma in my life to support me through my goals and vice versa — we were able to be that for each other and lift each other up. She is a special person,” he added.
Cody stopped short of spilling the exact reason for the split, but he did say their shared experience as athletes was conducive for their relationship.
“It’s a lifestyle that’s hard to understand. I feel it would be different to be with someone who isn’t doing it while you’re doing it,” he said, adding that their romance felt “inevitable” given all the time they’d spent training together.

Naturally, the pair’s meet-cute was by the pool, and happened after Cody had moved back to Australia from LA to pursue competitive swimming in 2021.
“We met at the pool, training under the same coach,” Cody recalled.
He went on to say he deliberated taking their friendship to the “next level”, given the intensity of the swimming environment and how much time they’d be spending together in the lead-up to the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
“You have to put a lot of thought into whether that’s a bridge you want to cross with somebody that you know you’re going to be spending the next four years with every day,” he said.
“That environment is so intense, adding a romantic layer to it is something that you really have to think about.”
Emma wasn’t the only ex Cody mentioned in the podcast. He also spoke about his two-year on-and-off relationship with Gigi Hadid back in 2013, describing the model as “my first love”.
ICYMI, Cody’s sister Alli Simpson recently spilled bulk tea about her famous sister-in-laws on PEDESTRIAN.TV’s podcast Villain Edit and revealed that Gigi was her fave.
Kylie Jenner also got a shout by Cody during the podcast, with Cody saying the pair, who dated for a year, “bonded through being in these unique situations” as teen celebs in Hollywood.

Cody has since returned to his entertainment career following his retirement from swimming after he failed to qualify for the Paris Olympics in 2024.
Meanwhile, Emma announced her own retirement in 2024, capping off an unmatched sporting career as Australia’s most decorated Olympian with a whopping 14 medals.
