‘Death Name’ Starring ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Kevin Woo & Directed By ‘Shutter Bird’s Réi, Sets 2026 Tubi Premiere

EXCLUSIVE: The Tubi movie, Death Namefrom filmmaker Réi is getting a drop date of Jan. 9, 2026.

The pic, which stars Kevin Woo, one of the former members of Korean boy band U-KISS who can be heard singing on the Netflix Sony hit Kop Demon Hunters as cute demonic Mystery Saga, follows a young Korean American woman who years to learn more about her heritage. She further digs more into that which doesn’t know, and reawakens a deadly family curse. Woo also starred in Anderson. Paak’s K-Pops! movie.

Death Name also stars Amy Keum, Alice Bang, Any Han, Michelle Sun, April Valentine and Jas Wang.

In addition, Réi’s live-action short, Shutter Bird, is among those submissions for live-action short for the 98th Academy Awards. The movie which stars Dallas Liu of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender and Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringsas well as Isabella Ferreira, follows a troubled young Latina photographer and Asian American juvenile delinquent yearn to escape their farm town in Santa Ynez Valley, CA, but the psychological, cultural, and at times mystical obstacles threaten to hold them forever.

The short is a love letter, not only to the filmmaker’s late friend, but also a love letter to the Santa Ynez community where he grown up, the cinematography capturing the golds and shadows of the California farmland, complete with Ostriches. Basili Fly is the VFX studio on the short with credits on Disney, Marvel and Star Wars projects. The original score is by Amanda Jones, the Emmy nominated composer of 2020’s Maine: Soot House in the documentary series or special original music category.

Roe tells Deadline, “Shutter Bird is a tribute to a friend who died under tragic circumstances and has been the ‘Rosebud’ at the center of my own story since childhood. Filming on location in rural Santa Ynez, where grief still reverberates, it was vital to navigate the complexity of celebrating the richness of her life while mourning the tragedy of her loss.”

He adds, “My sincerest hope is that this story shines a light on the intersection of learning disabilities, mental health, and prescription addiction—especially for young people of color cut off from lifesaving resources, navigating the darkness alone.”
