Disney Releases The Muppet Show Trailer Ft. Sabrina Carpenter

It’s time to play the music: The Muppet Show is getting a full-blown reboot in 2026. Well, kinda.

The variety sketch comedy series, which ran for five seasons from 1976 to 1981, is returning with a special episode on February 4 to coincide with the show’s 50th anniversary.

Disney+ released a trailer for the revival on Saturday and hinted that, if all goes well, the series might return for a full season.

What’s The Muppet Show special going to be about?

The teaser features everyone’s favourite felt-based puppets returning to the Muppet Theatre to produce a new variety show.

“It’s the return of The Muppet Show!” Kermit the Frog declares. “Back on the very stage where it all started, and then ended, and is maybe starting again depending on how tonight goes.”

The revival will also feature special guest star Sabrina Carpenter, who is shown in the trailer twinning with Miss Piggy in matching pink outfits.

“You’re an icon,” Carpenter tells the certified diva.

“You’re too sweet… Go on,” Miss Piggy replies.

The show’s executive producer, Seth Rogen, also makes a cameo appearance, telling Fozzie Bear that it’s “always been a dream of [his]” to be on the show.

“Ooh, got any other dreams?” Fozzie Bear responds.

Miss Piggy movie in the works

If all goes well and the series gets picked up for a full-season run, Miss Piggy is set to become one of the hardest-working women in Hollywood.

It was recently announced that the on-again, off-again girlfriend of Kermit the Frog will be getting a movie spinoff, with Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence on board as producers.

Lawrence announced the news on Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers’ Las Culturistas podcast in November and also revealed that comedian Cole Escola will write the script.

“I don’t know if I can announce this, but I am just going to … Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie and Cole is writing it,” Lawrence proudly shared.

While Miss Piggy has appeared alongside her puppet ensemble in a whole host of Muppets movies — the last of which was released in 2014 — this will mark the first time she has had a standalone film. And honestly, it’s what she deserves.
