Dramatic scenes as tactical cops raid an underground carpark in Liverpool and arrest a man in nearby Busby after terrifying home invasion

A major police operation continues after tactical officers stormed an underground carpark and later arrested a man in a neighbouring suburb following an alleged armed break-in and enter in Sydney’s south-west.

Heavily armed officers and police dogs attended a unit complex in Northumberland Street, Liverpool about 5pm on Friday while investigating an alleged aggravated hime invasion Smithfield seven hours earlier. 

A 48-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were at home at the time when three men, one armed with a shortened firearm, allegedly broke into The Horsley Drive home and threatened the pair.

The woman suffered minor injuries when she was struck in the arm with an object. The man was not injured.

The men then allegedly stole the keys to the man’s Audi before they fled in the vehicle.

Police spent much of the day tracking the vehicle’s whereabouts before it was dumped in the underground carpark in Liverpool.

The Audi has since been recovered and seized for forensic examination.

Shocked residents at the unit complex reported seeing a heavy police presence as officers and detectives moved swiftly through the cordoned off scene.

Forensic officers were also seen scouring the unit complex for evidence.

A short time later, police arrested a 38-year-old man inside a vehicle on South Liverpool Road in nearby Busby.

He was taken to Cabramatta Police Station, where inquiries are ongoing. No charges have yet been laid.

Specialist officers later raided a nearby house in Busby under the Firearms Act. 

‘This operation is ongoing,’ a NSW Police spokesperson told Daily Mail on Friday night.

Photos from the scene showed the street swarming with officers shortly after 6pm. 

Investigations continue.
