Eagles star Jalen Carter accused of gouging an opponent’s eye months after spitting suspension

Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Jalen Carter’s reputation for dirty play only grew worse on Sunday when he appeared to gouge Buffalo Bills right tackle Spencer Brown’s eye during a win in Orchard Park.
With Buffalo in a short-yardage situation deep in Philadelphia territory, Carter not only got Brown’s eye with his right thumb, but also managed to slam his biceps into the Bills star’s throat.
‘Ouch,’ announcer Tom Brady said on the Fox broadcast. ‘He got eye gouged and throat slashed.’
Brown was briefly examined by trainers afterwards, although there was no flag on the play. The Eagles ultimately won, 13-12, after Bills quarterback Josh Allen failed to connect on a two-point conversion at the end of the fourth quarter.
Afterwards, Brown was seen jawing with Eagles players and he didn’t hold back with reporters in the locker room, either. Asked if he thought the gouge was an accident, Brown told WGRZ reporter Jonathan Acosta and others: ‘No, I don’t think so, but it was coming I guess.’
This was not Carter’s first incident of 2025. He was ejected six seconds into this season’s Week 1 opener for spitting at Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. The NFL ultimately issued a one-game suspension and fined him $57,222.

Jalen Carter missed some time this season to deal with lingering issues in both shoulders
Previously he was involved in a fatal car crash while celebrating a national championship at the University of Georgia in January of 2023 when teammate Devin Willock and Bulldogs recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy were both killed. Police believe LeCroy and Carter were street racing in separate cars when she crashed.
Carter was given one year of probation and fined $1,000 after pleading no contest to misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and racing related to the wreck.
Despite this, the 6-foot-3, 315-pound defensive standout was still picked nineth overall in the 2023 NFL Draft and later started in Philadelphia’s Super Bowl, LIX win over the Kansas City Chiefs last February.
He missed several games this season due to problems with both shoulders, but has since returned after receiving pain injections.
Carter & Co. were particularly good against Buffalo, sacking Allen five times despite rarely rushing more than four defenders when the Bills quarterback passed the football. Allen complete3d only 23 of 35 passes for 211 yards for the game.
Carter finished the game with a sack and one pass defended. He has not yet addressed the gouging incident.
