England fans voice their fury over video of ‘drunk’ Ashes batsman Ben Duckett – but they’re NOT angry with the Three Lions star

England cricket fans have leapt to the defence of opener Ben Duckett after footage surfaced appearing to show him intoxicated on a night out in Queensland – and lashed out at those responsible for filming and sharing it.

In the viral video, Duckett is seen alone and being asked if he needs any assistance to get back to the team’s hotel safely.

It is unclear when the footage was taken, but during the conversation one England fan is heard saying ‘we’re losing 2-0’, indicating that it may have been between the second and third Tests.

Australia won the second Test at the Gabba in Brisbane by eight wickets on December 7, and the third Test in Adelaide didn’t start until December 17.

This means there is a 10-day window in which the video could have been recorded.

In the clip, three passersby ask Duckett if he wants them to order him an Uber home.

Asked if he knows where he is staying, the 31-year-old replies: ‘No’.

A male England fan teases Duckett and says, ‘Do you want me to get you an Uber to the nets, bro?’ – mocking England’s poor batting displays in the first two Tests.

Duckett’s retort is to call him a ‘p***k’ and say ‘no one knows who you are’.

Slurring his words, the left-hander opener then confirms who he is.

But despite England fans’ frustration with the series loss and widespread criticism of the team’s preparations, they have defended him and instead slammed whoever is behind the footage.

‘Whoever filmed the Ben Duckett video should be ashamed of themselves,’ one person wrote.

‘Have people so quickly forgotten the tragic consequences that can come about by doing this to players?’

‘I don’t even think he’s done that much wrong. Who hasn’t had a few drinks too many in our lives. It’s not like he’s smoking crack, calm down people,’ another added.

‘Things like these lead to future stuff being done behind closed doors, becoming estranged from the supporters,’ another commenter claimed.

The reaction comes as innocent footage of Duckett’s teammate Jacob Bethell vaping and enjoying a night out has also been spread on social media.

The England Cricket Board has since confirmed it is investigating claims some team members turned the team’s Noosa break into a beer-drinking stag-do.

In a short statement about the Duckett clip, an ECB spokesperson told Daily Mail Sport: ‘We are aware of content circulating on social media.

‘We have high expectations for behaviour, accepting that players are often under intense levels of scrutiny, with established processes that we follow when conduct falls below expectations. We also support players that need assistance.

‘We will not comment further at this stage while we establish the facts.’
