Every incredible beauty trend we saw at Australian Fashion Week- RUSSH

It’s Australian Fashion Week, and once again we’re reminded of how much incredible local talent we have. There’s models, designers, creatives, writers, photographers — not to mention the hair and makeup artists who bring a brand’s vision to life. I love the beauty element of a runway show, it adds so much in terms of the vibe, the mood, and the story-telling element. Sometimes it’s subdued and fresh, while other times the hair and makeup can add drama or shock factor. Either way, it’s a melting pot of inspiration, and an incredible incubator for beauty trends.

We’re only a few days in, but I’ve already seen a lot of incredible looks — low chignons at Beare Park, insane kohl liner at Speed, and the coolest Ziggy Stardust-inspired makeup at Alix Higgins…

Below, the best beauty trends from Australian Fashion Week, according to ‘RUSSH’.

Low ponies

A beauty standout from AFW was definitely the low ponytail. I loved the softness of the style at Lee Matthews; it was perfect against the voluminous collection. Also, a moment for the skin by Linda Jefferyes using Rationale.

I can’t not mention the hair at Beare Park, either. Almost undone ponytails and chignons hung effortlessly over slippery silk dresses and masterful tailoring — a perfect juxtaposition.

Alien-core

Under-eye liner and stars by Sean Brady for MAC Cosmetics were on the menu at Alix Higgins. Think David Bowie-esque shapes in opaque shades of white and burnt orange.

Club Eyes

Another work of art by Brady, but this time smudgy kohl club eyes for Common Hours using Makeup Forever at the Frontier Show. Channel your inner Charli XCX and go for a nude lip, or pat on a matte red for additional impact.

Bold Black Liner

Minimalists can skip this one, but we’re very into the high drama liner, as seen at Speed (again by makeup maestro Sean Brady). It’s a full look, but could definitely be diluted for every day — think a chunky lash, or a powdery black wing.

Fresh Skin

On the other end of the spectrum we have plenty of fresh skin inspiration — most notably on the Beare Park runway, where makeup artist Isabella Shimid used Emma Lewisham for an ethereal glow (including the soon-to-launch Sunsceutical SPF 50 Mineral Glow Serum).

I also can’t get past the fresh blush at Carla Zampatti, especially against the natural hair texture and directional clothing. The hair, by stylist Madison Voloshin, was created using the Shark Beauty FlexStyle Air Styling & Drying System and SpeedStyle RapidGloss Finisher & High-Velocity Dryer.
