Ex-Chiefs Super Bowl hero Mecole Hardman signs with Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills are signing former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman to their practice squad, according to reports.

Hardman, who scored the championship-winning touchdown in Kansas City’s 2023 Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers, was available to snap up two months after being released by the Green Bay Packers.

The 27-year-old joined the Packers earlier this year after his second stint with the Chiefs came to an end, yet he failed to make it further than their practice squad before being cut in September.

Now ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler is reporting that the Bills have offered Hardman a lifeline by adding him to their practice squad on Monday evening.

Almost two years after proving the hero for Kansas City, he is now heading to his old team’s fierce AFC rivals amid their search for a first Super Bowl appearance since 1994.

The Bills already have a wide receiver on their practice squad in Gabe Davis, who recently returned to fitness after being sidelined since the middle of 2024 with a knee injury.

Yet Hardman, who is known for his lightning speed, immediately becomes one of the fastest options at head coach Sean McDermott’s disposal.

He could also help with special teams given his vast experience as a return man, an area Buffalo is struggling in right now.

The former New York Jets wideout has split time throughout his career as a boundary receiver as well as a slot receiver. He played five regular-season games against the Bills, registering 14 catches for 130 yards and a touchdown. In four playoff games he managed just four receptions for 32 yards, as well as four rushes for 80 yards.

Hardman started his career with the Chiefs, who drafted him with the 56th overall pick in 2019, before signing with the Jets as a free agent in 2023 after winning his first two Super Bowls in Kansas City.

However, after failing to settle in New York he soon returned to Arrowhead Stadium on a trade from the Jets, before he went on to take the Super Bowl-winning catch against the 49ers in February 2024.
