Fans are convinced Tottenham were destined to win the Europa League after spotting bizarre trend in 2024-25 trophy winners

Fans on social media have suggested that Tottenham were destined to win the Europa League after spotting a bizarre trend from this season.

Ange Postecoglou’s side ended the club’s 17-year wait for a major trophy after beating Manchester United 1-0 following a first-half strike from Brennan Johnson.

In addition to winning their first European trophy since 1984, Tottenham will now compete in next season’s Champions League despite a disastrous Premier League campaign that sees them sit in 17th place heading into the final domestic weekend.

However, their league form will have been cast to the back of the players’ minds as they partied late into the night – with plenty of videos emerging on social media.

As the Spurs stars celebrated their achievements, fans online were quick to spot an interesting trend among this season’s title winners and went on to suggest that it was destined for the north London side to clinch the win.

Social media users claimed that the 2024-25 campaign was the ‘Year of the Bird’ – due to Newcastle, Liverpool, Crystal Palace and Tottenham’s association with birds.

Liverpool, Palace and Spurs all have a bird featuring on their club crest (Liver bird, eagle and cockerel), while Newcastle are nicknamed the Magpies.

All four of the teams clinched silverware during the season with Liverpool winning the league, Newcastle the Carabao Cup and Palace the FA Cup.

Fans had noted the trend prior to Wednesday night’s Europa League final and some suggested that Spurs were destined to beat Man United – who have no bird affiliation.

The hilarious trend was quickly noted by others as Real Betis – who will take on Chelsea in next week’s UEFA Conference League final next Wednesday – posted an updated version of their badge for the occasion.

Taking to X, they said: ‘Presenting our badge for the Conference League final,’ with a shot that had seen a bird added to their crest.

Meanwhile, after the 1-0 victory in Bilbao, Spurs’ stars partied into the early morning as they celebrated ending the club’s 17-year wait for a major trophy.

Clips showed the Spurs stars in the changing rooms as they blared out music from speakers, tucked into pizza and popped champagne.

Spurs’ official account also shared a video which showed the festivities as Son Heung-Min re-enacted the trophy lift inside the changing room.

The South Korean was sprayed with champagne by his team-mates as they revelled in the occasion.

Spurs captain Son was later seen outside the team’s hotel in Bilbao rallying the travelling fans who had followed them back to offer their support.

The forward, with his winners medal draped over his shoulders, cupped his ears to the supporters and waved them on as they cheered the team’s return.

While videos from Spurs’ official accounts ended there, a number of the players showed off the late night celebrations via their own personal accounts.

On Destiny Udogie’s story, posted around 2am, Spurs’ stars could be seen inside a hall – likely at their hotel – as their partied the night away in their full-kit.

Kevin Danso and Timo Werner could be seen particularly enjoying the festivities as the squad, along with their family and friends, rejoiced in the moment.
