Follow AFL finals week 3 preliminary final scores, results, odds, squads and start time from the MCG in Melbourne

With tickets for tonight’s game sold out, a bumper crowd is on the cards at the MCG.

The fierce rivalry between Geelong and Hawthorn will only fuel that anticipation. In fact, their Easter Monday clash earlier this season in round six drew 88,746 spectators.

That is the second-largest crowd we have seen in the AFL so far this season, behind only the 92,044 that attended the Anzac Day match between Collingwood and Essendon. It also was a high watermark for the Cats – the biggest home-and-away crowd they have ever played in front of – and the third-highest crowd the Hawks have ever seen in the regular season.

Here’s a list of some of the biggest crowds when these teams have met. All games, of course, were here at the MCG.

It’s unlikely that we’ll get a grand final-esque crowd tonight (ie: six figures), but something over 90,000 is certainly on the cards, and with tomorrow’s preliminary final between Collingwood and the Brisbane Lions also at the MCG, it is going top be a massive 24 hours at the home of football.
